I am going to be forced to take a break, it appears, from guitar for the coming three months. I am currently in the USA, and will be traveling all over the Midwest, South, and Northeast doing training interviews (the plan is to eventually move to the USA to train/work as a psychiatrist). The traveling and constant packing/unpacking is quite tiring and time-consuming, and I surely didn't get my guitar here with me because it was not going to be practical to attempt flying with it all over the nation. Hence, I won't be very active guitar-wise until my return to Beirut (planned at the end of January or early February 2012). Let's just hope I still know how to play guitar when I get back to Beirut.

thats ok man, its fine...sometimes its nice to have a brake and come back reinvigorated and fresh...i totally understand how you feel...i have just come out of a couple of months brake ( i only did what i had too, playing gigs, classes and lessons, nothing more, nothing extra...i only just got by on autopilot)...i just didnt feel like it...its ironic...this is just when u should be practicing and catching up with foro members
now i am starting to practice proper again...sometimes it happens
Todd: Thanks my friend! It would be a treat to meet you and to see you play live. I wouldn't want to borrow your guitar though as I don't know how I'd return it (and I don't want to ship it for fear of damage).

Sorry US-guys but all people I met till now, especially women, are totally fake. I cant distinguish between flat fake nice talk and real opinions. I hate that !!! I'm so unhappy. Everybody here is ****ing fake!!! What a dilemma. :(

hmm I don´t know that book... I would rather prefer to meet some nice people than spending my time reading. But so far as I understood the plot of this book, I really would like to go to Manhattan too right now and vent my anger with some... But Im in a ****ing university town. Since Im in the very end of my PhD Im one of the oldest here. It sucks so much being unable to find people in my age,...and beside of that..honest people.. they seem to not exist here. Its all about whos drunk first. And the girls date 2-3 guys at the same time at different days at the week. Ridiculous! And I'm stuck here till mid of next year!! I seem to be a magnet for the ridiculous and it accumulates lately!! :(((((((

My first question is, you can't bring a guitar and practice in your hotel?
I didn't get my guitar with me because I had to have three pieces of luggage with me, and getting the guitar would have been just too much.

I am not treating anyone now. If I get a psychiatry residency position, I'll be treating people in whatever state I end up in. It doesn't require "studying culture in depth" to be able to work as a psychiatrist at a country different that that of one's origin.

Indeed, but every year, thousands of international medical graduates (from India, China, etc.) get accepted into psychiatry residencies and end up practicing psychiatry in the USA. Hence, cultural differences are important, but they do not dictate whether someone foreign to the US culture can see American psychiatric patients. If you want to discuss this further, please PM me.

I've been invited to interview at some residency programs in the USA. I haven't been accepted yet, though.
I agree Ramzi! But more in a way we can learn from each other.
Funny thing is that I am seeing a psychic for quite some years now and have taken a lot of medication because my mind is at 300% all the time. Depression, ADHD, hypersensitive, indigo child and so on,...al kinds of diagnoses but none could help me to relax (exept the morphine I'd to take for my hernia)
Two weeks ago I went to an acupuncturist as some kind of last resort. She said she could threat me for all this, but first we need to bring you back in balance (to much yang)...and since the second session I've never felt better before! And the only thing she did was bringing the Liver energy back in balance. And as a bonus I got feeling in my drop feet again, which western healthcare could not help me with anymore.

Welcome to high-context culture ;) But you dont really needed to go to US to find that out. Just compare the native english speakers on the forum with non-natives, and you will find out that they labern um den heissen Brei herum.
I just took part in an intercultural program at the uni. Was interesting about all the cultural differences. But i have to say, the German way of communication is more rational and effective

rather, the truth is that in general Americans are victims of manipulation of information and the biggest fault of their society: the loneliness. This, I believe, makes individuals - in society - "different" than they are in their hearts individually. But in the end, if you can "watch" over the appearance and able to "hear" instead of "being heard", then discover that stupidity and falsity have no nationality.
"Everyone" thinks where they are from is the best and everywhere else is horrible. Get over it Doitsujin if you aren't happy in the states, leave, or find people who make you happy. I can assure you if you are anywhere near some metropolitan area there are many people of different backgrounds and cultures and types that you will find yourself happy to hang out with unless you really are as sorry a person as your hijacking of the thread makes you out to be.
Good luck in the states Ramzi, don't listen to him, every country has it's good and it's bad, and since the US is such a huge country there is a lot of everything.
