I guess the least will be doubting on the eventuality that a good part of guitar playing males once started out with the instrument in order to impress girls. Some in the aftermath developing into passionate musicians / music lovers, some not, despite possibly highly trained skills. ( And I think to recognize the latter by their mellowness; the little appreciation they have for harmony notwithstanding their elsewise high standards.) Those on the other hand who started out without image goals / merely for the appreciation of music and / or the sonic beauty of the instrument, initially might come to performing before audience secondarily or even not at all. ( Remaining "closet players" as I like to call them. People who play just for their own joy.) The second group ( who started out for musical reason ) when ending up on stage, not seldomly remain of humble ministry. All dedicated to the musical preformance and little occupied with their personal appearance on stage. Like for exmaple, as it seems to me, PdL. As he says, for most of his life he didn´t think of himself as being an all too outstanding guitarist. And maybe that humbleness reflects in his "chicography", which I assume to have been / be correspondingly humble in the same time ( in relation to what´s common with international stars ). ( I remember an affair with a girl who had rejected Paco´s woo after one of his concerts in the late eighties, on favour of our beginning interlude. >Pats himself on the shoulder< ;O) And me speculates that Paco might have not been too fruitful with picking up groupies in general, despite of him being one of the best guitarists in the world. - Which I hope to be erring with, seeing what a sympathetic person he is!) So, in sight of that kind of stage earning I ( interested to see what you think ) like to claim the follwing hypothesis: Whoever approached musical performance for wallowing in female´s demand at best fancy outstanding artistry, celebrating himself; as it is before all aura of fancy on stage that attracts the elfes ( who might have lesser understanding of your musical skills, than a quite sharp perception of your self-presence ). For which again it helps a lot to be a bit witless; in the sense of that witty individuals with their overview on discography and colleague´s artistic aquisitions tend to rank themselves accordingly humble / only every other time deeming big deal of their personal gig. Therefore: The pimply but shrewd teenager, thinking of grabbing himself that stratocaster for to become tomorrows Slash with all the chicks around, possibly better pursue attracting skills with more promissing investment-to-earning rates. - Like becoming ski or aerobic trainer for instance. For being on stage mustn´t yield groupies, even if your are great with what you do musically. Ruphus

Actually you can take a lesson from Manitas de Plata if you really want to score, um points with the ladies. You may not know just how right you are! There are some videos on the net of Manitas de Plata playing for Brigitte Bardot at some Soiree around 1969. Just type in the key words "Manitas de Plata and Brigitte Bardot," and several videos of the same evening appear. Play the videos and observe the absolutely adoring looks Brigitte Bardot gives Manitas, sucking on her finger, playing with her hair, and generally looking like she is in heat! Cheers, Bill

ORIGINAL: Doitsujin I just won´t hire a translator to have a discussion with a guy whos mother tongue is the same as mine... "Mother tongue"?! If you could see me communicating in Farsi by support of hands and feet ... You´d laugh your head off! - Let alone Arabic scripture! I just can´t get myself into that left-hander stenography sans discrete consonants. ( Ataturk knew why he introduced latin letters.) If you were to detect alien language pattern in my English, it would be German syntax. quote:
ORIGINAL: Pgh_flamenco Songs without lyrics have very little significance to most women. They tolerate displays of instrumental competence, but have no real interest in it. While it might be sounding politically incorrect ( which it isn´t ), I think that hits the nail on its head. With both gender, but more so with females ( which again has its sociological / anthropological cause ). For the majority of people it seems the lyrics are what matters in the first place. With the vocal being the center of arrangement for the average listener. Accordingly, here on the foro someone posted just days ago, vocals were to be the most demanding instrument, which to me is the most of nonesense. With voice as inbuilt tool and familiar from bith, as well as singing as genetical default talent, the question would rather be: What´s up with civilisation that such ability desolates at all? Ruphus
