yes, the Rondena is played in E flat (with a short visit to taranta @ 1.38 )
now that you mention it...those mics are interesting. anyone knows which brand / system? they are quite far away from him and still the sound is quite bright and very good.
my uncle told me that once he went to a concert from Jason in US. he was in the first row.
he was so excited that he went Ole non stop lol
and Jason did something like this (of course with a smile and friendly manner), that meant like: "wait a little my friend,,, the OLE part comes next" LOL
Jason, if you should read this, do you remember him ?lol

I like how sharp and "attacky" Condes generally sound in the trebles, but the basses always sound dull especially with not fresh strings like here. Compare the sound with new basses on the Cerreduela ROndena video.

to be honest, nowadays i prefer exactly this little bit "dull" sound. like one or two week old (ok lets say 1 week lol) strings (not too dull, but not too fresh and buzzy like 1 day old strings either). the thing is, you have to play more powerful. but then you get the best sound imo. this sound is not too messy and like a buzzy motor, but more seperated and defined...... of course, too dull is bad.
I got a little chill at 1:05 in the bulerias video.... I'm a sucker for good rasgueados lately, then I had to go and practice mine I also love that sound of the Conde with a little it dull basses
Ramzi, a note about the tuning: i guess the problem is that if you have a performance and your guitar is tuned normal the whole time, then when for a certain piece you have to tune a string so much deeper (specially like here E to B), then i guess you can be sure that the string won't exactly stay in that tune, not even for the few minutes in the certain piece. the string doesn't have enough time to settle down in that tune.
now that i am talking about this, that might also be a reason why he plays with a little bit elder strings? because in case of new strings, that problem is even worse if you play with such alternate tunings ! don't know, just guessing
CD? Its getting better and better. Btw i tried to translate the info text on his bulerias into german. See what came out
quote:
Am just listening to the Solea por Bulerias at the mo - absolutely stunning. Is the guitar tuned differently? I'm not very good at figuring out alternate tunings yet.
Weird! so I happened upon a thread from earlier this month about the new diego del morao album and the cigalamusic site has a pic of diego with a signed paco guitar too!!!! http://www.elcigala.com/diegodelmorao/
whats happening??... seems strange to me that pro players would use a signed guitar!!
he played other solo pieces in this jerez festival (which are not on youtube) so i bet was using it also to promote his upcoming CD. CD is not out yet as far as i can see.
Re. Paco Signatures: i find it specially cool that these pro. guys do that. I mean normally you would say, they are pros. themselves, they give signatures themselves and are all kickass players. so no need a sig. from another pro. (paco). but that shows how much paco is admired and respected and that everybody knows what he has done for flamenco. so even from those well known guitar players like Diego who have their unique style which differs from Pacos style, you see these signatures. cool thing imo.
which is just another proof of how cool Paco is BTW Paco is coming to my near in November, precisely to Leverkusen. Im actually thinking of getting his signature.
lol Deniz, lets stop this Pacomania here. And also no more talk about Conde. Lets don't attract certain people to destroy a nice thread (including Paco, Conde and all the other nice things in life lol)

you don't know a lot of gypsies I guess. They tend to do things like a group, you know what ever becomes the "cool thing" they all follow suite. Like getting a tatoo or hair cut, or type of clothes, etc. Jesus de Rosario too. The idea is Paco above, and Tomatito below I heard. I guess Manuel has not met Tomatito yet.
The Bayarea Flamenco festival give this biography of Manuel Valencia.
"MANUEL VALENCIA (Guitarrist) Direct from Jerez, one of the most promising young accompanists for Gypsy flamenco singing. They say this young man was born with a guitar under his arm. Seeped in the toque of Manuel Morao, he learned to accompany the cante from his uncle, Fernando Terremoto (hijo). He performed for several years in Morao's company and has toured with Maria de la Mar Moreno. He is currently a member of Gerardo Núñez's group and is working on a solo CD produced by Núñez."
