^^ He plays mainly Paco flasetas in this bulerias.. We had a discussion about that buleria in past. I think he plays awesome and he has also talent for composing when he doesnt use Pacos stuff. Hes a technique monster but there are so many crazy guitarists in spain.. I think hes in the top row without doubt.
I know you did it only for sharing reasons, thats why i apologized in advance. Well, they basically missed the chance to make an original performance. Maybe they had no time to practice, or it was Emmanuel's choice to pick this song. But it would have been way cooler if they worked out something that is original and suits as a fusion piece, just like PdL,DiMeola did, with their non-Rumba pieces i mean.
Emmanuel being my greatest non-flamenco guitar idol I find it hard to critique that performance in a neutral fashion. But, I think doing this is a better idea than throwing together some forgettable, vaguely Flamenco sounding jazzy "fusion" piece...but maybe that's just me.
They are cheating a bit though. They're speeding the overall tempo way up, but they are doing triplets through 95 percent of the tune, and not straight 16ths like Paco and co. Pretty much everybody that plays Rio ancho/ Entres does this.
Rumba has alot more energy at 240 than at 190bpm, so i understand why people go for that option.
What's rare is hearing players that can match what Paco was doing with the Trio in the 80's. Still havent heard anything close.

ah....sorry man NO. Check it again those are 16ths...even the tempo is up. The only triplets I noticed were by Cerreduela on the right at 5:30. and the ending of course, but the rest of the time it was 4 per beat man. The guy on left is using i a but maybe cheating with 3 fingers, hard to tell. Those guys are fast as f u c k. That spot at 3:54 is scary. And overall their improv is not bad at all.
I THINK there were some close ups where i saw Enrique playing with a-i picado, there might be also 3 finger picado involved somewhere, at least i didnt see it. Todd, i think they are playing this at original speed like on Friday Night. Except the ending where they went a bit too crazy IMO but still they didnt loose it at all. Munin, nevermind my comment i was just ranting. Its just... i mean the 1000th rendition of Entre dos Aguas, really? It kinda leaves you disappointed when this is the result of a get-together by two such great guitarrists as Rafa and Emmanuel, i admire both. I honestly dont think one can cover pacos rumba material better than Cerreduela and Bermudez did in that performance. If i was a gigging player, i would opt for different material in future, just sayin' especially as it is on youtube... people will refer to it and say "well... your version is pretty good, but this is the real deal"

I think it's beacuse they are differnt style guitarist? put Cortes with another killer guitarist like Tomatito, and I'm sure they have a killer jam.. with Emmanuel with another great such as his brother or martin taylor or even guys like steve lukanter, I'm sure it'll be good..
I clock the tempo at 240bpm using my metronome. That is the tempo, that cannot be disputed.
So, you're saying they're playing straight 16ths at 240bpm in this video?
No way in hell dude. They would sound like bumble beez at that speed.

Todd is right, those are not 4 per beat, but close to triplets, maybe a tad faster at times.
Wow...you guys are killin me.
I play rumbas 4 days a week w/ drum machine. We do rumbas this speed (120-128) and all along I got NO PROBS with triples (6's per beat) in all that tempo range. I warm up to it with slower tunes of course. But 4's (or 8's per beat) is too fast for me.
I CANNOT GO AS FAST as what these guys are doin in this vid. Just that one spot at 5:29 I can do. But as I pointed out the spot at 3:54 and elsewhere....(compare to 3:45 right before, THOSE are triplets) and the NOTE FOR NOTE as PDL ending at 6:18 still in tempo....sorry man out of my league. Maybe with a pick if I REALLY push it and do my standard easy fast lick. Just try to drum your hands to what they play or do triplet rasgueado vs 4's rasgueado along with em to see what I mean.
I know these ain't triplets, but maybe they push to 5's or something at times, dragging tail, but still feels like 4's to me....where are the video downloading slowdowner counting nerds to help us with this!!!
ricardo
And my metronome has them pushing above 240 to boot.

Look also at Paco's shoes. That's your proof that he was influenced by Al
Grisha, thanks for the video. I would love to see you do this run. I'm sure you can do it with ease. The tricky part is going into those triplets at that speed.
