I really like his Technique. I also teach it at the Conservatory. He showed me falsetas like he plays them and not how Faucher transcribed them.
I think Ruben would agree with me that hes one of the most innovative and original flamencos out there. He does stuff Paco would never have thought of doing.

Yes, I go there, it can be quite good. Gary Hayes plays there (Gerado Alcala) but he is away in Spain now - he is muy Flamenco. A lot of local instructors and advanced students dance there. Every once in a while a gitano will show-up and play, I saw this gitano sing and accompany himself on guitar, and he was amazing. Wish I got his name, that was a few years ago.
One good thing is we are blessed in Vancouver with a bunch of Cante singers, a bit unusual. There is an old guy who sings and he is very good with working the crowd.
I am in Maui on holiday, so I won't be in town. Enjoy the show. I believe the show starts at 9:00PM and they will do three sets. The first and second set is very busy, unless you go early you will have trouble finding a seat.

Yes, he was a pain. I was just commenting on the irony of it all... it is true in all walks of life. You fit in or you are out on the street. Still, something about that is disquieting. Perhaps some of the people banned have a mental illness, indeed I am almost certain one of them did.

Actually Gary is back now and I'm going to take some classes with him. He was my first teacher about 4 years ago, I met him at Kino when he was playing with Angel, a cantaor from Malaga. I know the old guy that your talking about, hes good with Rumbas and gets up and dances a bit and gets everybody clapping. Anyway, maybe we can meet up next year!

Well, ah'll probably just walk doon tae the beach here and if I get bored or a bit caul ah kin aye ging up tae the Post Office an buy a stamp or a postcaird or ging up tae the Wee Shoppie fur a packet o' crisps an a can o Irn Bru an come back an sit an watch the wee boaties on the North Sea bobbin aboot an the seagulls fleein aroon.....then away back haim fur ma tea.

Yeah well, it was a while ago when I was awash with money at Apple Computer in Cupertino so I jumped on a 5 hour flight from SFO for a long weekend - rented a Saleen Mustang convertible and checked into a condo on the beach..... as you do
I got a cool tee-shirt that said (in Hawaiin) "Swim softly and carry a big stick" and a run in with a local who was chased me down the mountain in a Pepsi truck like out of "Duel".
Your wee "Scotch" boaties and haim fur tea are very exotic to Hawaiins, you know.

Ah but Simon, soon only 20 miles away from me Donald Trump will be building the "World's greatest golf course", along with fine restaurants and world class shopping.
Somehow I think I will still be spending time on the local beach though, watching the boaties and gulls, since I am somewhat short of a world class income.
it says bachian harmony. which is a laugh. that would mean that he'd have virtually no idea about mode mixture secondary chords or anything past 1750 lol. and i think bachian is not really what we call it... common practice harmony.
my favorite thing is that it says his father was a student of segovia's...but then why did ruben end up taking lessons from a guy in argentina? and just how long was ruben's father a student ?

Manuel López Ramos, originally from Argentina, lived and taught for many years in Mexico City, where Ruben is from.

Probably an hour or two, just like most people who attended a master class but don't claim to be "a student and a disciple".
What's with this "disciple" thing anyway? Ruben himself said in one of his earlier posts "flamenco is not a religion", yet he talks as if - for him, at least - it is.

There it is again. As I said before, teachers at the Royal Conservatory of Toronto are not "professors", unless they coincidentally teach at a University where they hold that title. It's not a title you can honestly give to yourself, any more than "Ph.D"

u know theres one think to talk about someone and disagree with him when hes here..its another to do so knowing he has no way of defending himself and replying
by now we all know the guy cant change , hes either not aware or cant help it ( and i feel the same as most of you)...but atleast let him be or if we gonna keep talking about him let him defend himself
it feels wrong to keep talking about someone when u know he cant even replie or defend himself
