the best buleria
I would like to hear your instrumental buleria favourites. There are many brilliant and so the favourites tend to change for time to time. But I would like to know what is your number one at the moment. It will be interresting then try to find them and listen and propably expand my buleria horizons. My favourite is Pacos almoraima from the same named album. Its so strong, dynamic, emotional and grooving. I really like it, it ignites me
there are many that i like, but the first i thought of when reading your question was Pinonate... any bulería by Paco is great, and also i'm very fond of Gerardo Núnez's non-standard bulería compositions... i also love Ojos de la Alhambra by Vicente Amigo...
Lately I've really been enjoying the first bulerias from Paco Cepero's "Corazon y Bordon. It's really slow and laid back (about 160 bpm?), and has this relaxed, confident feel that I really like, and a lot of cool, melodic falsetas. I definitely wouldn't rate this as a "best" of all time sort of thing (it's a little too atypical for that), but it's been one of my favorites of late....

Agreed, Almoraima is one of a kind, one of my most frequent choices out of the many things Paco de Lucia recorded i love to listen to. On youtube, there are a few Bulerias i saved on my "favorites" and like to return to; you probbaly know them, but just in case....
Oscar Herrero "De Colores" Bulerias (Flamenco Guitar)
Oscar Herrero Taranta Bulerias
(a classic) Tomatito Bulerias
Moraito por Bulerias
and yes.... Ojos de Alhambra (Bulerías), Vicente Amigo
Well, my favourite bulerias would be a combination of my favourite falsetas from different pieces and/or Artists. If i would say a name of a complete piece, that would not be exactly true because there is somewhere another falseta which is nicer than a falseta in that piece. Thats the beauty of flamenco (falsetas). You can "copy and paste" your favourite falsetas in to a complete piece. You cant do that in any other music as far as i know.
I've got this as my ring tone on my phone. Great when it goes off in the middle of a meeting
Here is a strange one just up on YouTube, very odd from an old maestro:
I have Morricone's "fist full of dollars" as my ring tone... it has that duel at tequila sunrise sort of daring sound. Also great to have go off at meetings with opposing counsel
Sabicas is a classic no matter what he does. Thank you for pointing that out, Jim.
I'm new to flamenco, but found that I really am drawn to "old school", and so this is one of my current favorites:
BTW I've been lurking for several months and this is my first post. I must say that this is a great forum and in that time I've learned a quite a lot! Thanks every one.
I admire Gerardo for his "El Gallo Azul" as well. Another favourite is "Barrio Santiago" by Tomatito.
You asked for an instrumental, but What I listen most often to recently is the Fiesta por Bulerías recording from a festival in 1991. It lasts half an hour and features Moraito as the first guitarist. The playing is not as complex as in the usual solo recordings of course, but it's great acompainment and excellent cante.
I listened these bulerias. Very nice ones. I learned to recognise different styles. I must say the most I liked diego del gastors one. He has everything what it takes. All of the players have their unique and recognizeable style which is cool. Paco ceperos pulgar tricks are also cool and attention capturing. Tomatito is one that I have just started to appressiate. I've allways acknowledged his abilities as a guitarist but not before recently I have really started to like him. His tangos and bulerias especially. So many good ones... Im wondering that are these different styles of for example diego del gastor, sabicas, gerardo nunez etc. from a specific schools of style or are they just how the individual projects buleria. Maybe they are littlebit both but is there any recognizeable "eastcoast/westcoast" type of schools.
Thats a tough question because you are talking about specific compositions. If I think of favorate all time Buleria (in the traditional sense) it would be the 2cd track from Flamenco Vivo with Cameron and Tomatito in Paris.
In the traditional I love Paco Ceperos "Suenos en Jerez" Its just an amazing collection of punchy Jerez falsetas. P.s. there is nothing simple about the way Cepero Plays!!
El Pañuelo from Sirroco is my favourate Paco Buleria. It still sends a shiver in me.
All time favorate in terms of composition and originality is Gerardo Nuñezs Trafalgar though.
anyone here Todd k's version of this a few months ago ?? amazing >>
really amazing , its an incredible almost seems atonal in areas pieces.
i really like the old bulerias that Sabicas plays, hes and nino ricardos are cool especially when they going into a tradional ending the a minor to 57 thing , i love it.
tomatito goess off on the bulerias , im amazed to hear he uses many of the same falsetas he did with cameron, goes to show rhythm impetus is so important
