figure in back and sides

Help! I'm commissioning a palo escrito negra from a Spanish-speaking luthier and I want to discuss the figure in the grain, but my Spanish doesn't include the words for "figured grain". Or even for grain. The online translator keeps coming back with wheat.
I'm guessing one of you guys can help.

Well, grain in wood is "veta", but as always you cant just translate two words and think that it´ll mean the same.
I would use fondo y aros figurado or even better madera figurada en el fondo y en los aros.
But,my spanish is european and things can be very different in Mejico

With respect of Palo Escrito. Ask for a piece which is hard, dark, quatersawn and narrow grained without to many knots. Thats what I find to be important in this wood but then, maybe it wont have figure.
