Some how I lost my way in practicing!!!

Hola and ole amigos y amigas,

Some how I lost my way in practicing!!!

I dont know where I start, now there is every thing you need to learn and practice,

videos, dvds, books, youtube etc....

maybe they are too mcuh things to follow, and I am so confused and lost,

I know how to practice , but I am not sure how to arrange my practice, which come first and which come last!

I mean, practicing on techniques :

left hand
esikato
apyando
scales
chords
speed

right hand

picado
pulgar
alzapua
arpegios
rasagiado
golpe

palos:
buleria
solea
alegria
etc..

accompay: cante and baile

uffffffff..... how do you guys will arrange you practicing to cover all of those things!!!

I feel like i cannot follow any direction, what I achive is good in one technique and weak in other, and good in one palo and very weak in other!!!!

give me your advice guys,

haitham - aguilucho

Always compas.

As far as palos, I divide the priority like this:

Top priority: new material that you are trying to memorize
High priority: major palos that count in 12: Bulerias, Solea, Alegrias, Seguiriyas
(I dont apply the Ida de Vuelta palos to this priority)
Medium priority: common palos that count in 3 or 4
Low priority: lesser, rare palos or ones that you play an easy version of.

I make an excel spreadsheet to document my progress. Every time I practice a palo, I note the time spent (usually just 15 min for me since Ive aggrivated my tendonitis)

I color code the different palos to signify how long I think the benefits of that practice will last. The goal is- Try not to let any white spots show on the spreadsheet.

As far as technique, I only practice specific techniques that I want to use in a particular palo. When I do that, I just mark that Ive practiced the palo.

I think i am the exact opposite of that. When i hear something i wanna play, i look up for tabs. If theres none i hear it out. Then i practice that segment for 2 weeks. After that im usually exhausted and move on to the next thing that strikes my way. I do NOT recommend this method

divide your work ( learning / revision ) on the week's days
Chiste de Gales has a nice idea there ... I almost follow the same method

Sometime you feel like you reached to steps where you say...hemmm what shall I do next, I think these steps are good to reach, beacuse it tell that you have achieved something witch is good mate

then to answer the question (what shall you do next?), if you focus you will find the answer by your self, because there is something messing you must feel it then you will know what is the next step and what stuff you should learn... I almost follow my feeling to figure out what is messing

Always play "in compas", emphasizing the important beats for the palo and also keeping the beat.

Just my two cents worth...but I find it helpful to focus on a different technique within the compass of the different palos. For instance arpeggio practice within Solea, alzapua practice within solea por bulerias etc.

I also isolate the techniques from compass and practice very slowly

This is my ideal way...but of course I often get distracted and just goof around

Compas will guide you, your direction, the order, what to start, what to repeat, both
hands, how long, etc etc. Do it all in compas with some rhythmic expression, or
don't do it at all. You never feel lost if you are letting the compas dictate your
practice.
