Purfling 
For my next Guitars I will use some nice self made Purflings.
Up to now I use only stripes of veneer for the top Purflings.
I was inspired by a guitar from Bernabe that I played a view days ago at Siccas guitars in Karlsruhe (Germany).
I will make a batch of it for the next few guitars.

Maybe anybody can give me some advice how to do this right.

This is my plan for the Purflings (see picture attached):
Cut 64 stripes of veneer all approx 85cm long and 4-5cm wide.
Glueing the stripes into a block, 8 veneers a time.
Planing and sanding the block.
Sawing the block into approximately 14 pieces under 45 degree.
Glueing the prices into a block again.
Sawing the block into sheets of 3mm.
Sanding the sheets to 2mm.
Glueing some top and back veneers on.
Sawing the sheets into Purfling stripes of 2mm or make some herringbone pattern before sawing.

What to you think about this.

Half or full herring bone can be a pain to make in small batches. I glue the whole stack in one go then cut it diagonally in half the glue it back together the other way around. I dont use it for bindings though so I only have to make it 400mm long. To make it longer I would simply join it together when gluing the backing strip to it. I prefer a really sharp herring bone rather than a 45 degree one though and that definitely helps keeps the amount of veneer you need down.

Thanks for replying SEden,
How many veneers you use for the stack?
How you handle the curling of the veneers or you use PU?
Do you clamp in a jig?

No problem. As I use my herring bone a lot it makes sense for me to make it in larger amounts. So I made a stack about 60mm high by 50mm wide and 400mm long I can't remember how many veneers it was as I use a mix of 1mm .5 and .3. The angle of the lines is only 5 degrees though as I much prefer it that way.

I use PU for two reasons. Stop the veneers curling and it doesn't break under heat. You have to work fast though as it does start foaming and when it does it pushes the veneers apart and makes the stack uneven. You could do it in stages to avoid this issue though.

After I cut slices on a bandsaw, I sanded them to specific thickness on a drum sander, then cut strips on a table saw using my fret-slotting blade.
