New soleá falseta collection
Hi everyone, First off, a great big thank you to those of you who’ve made a donation through my website. Your generosity is why it’s still online. I’ve completed a new soleares falseta collection and am here to say that it’s now available. This time around, the material consists of my own falsetas and those of others (from Ramón Montoya to Vicente Amigo), most of which I’ve changed to suit my preferences. I’ve had some problems trying to post here in recent years. I’d set up a new account and it would very quickly be blocked, and Simon hasn’t responded to any of my messages in recent years. If this message isn’t deleted, I’ll provide more information on the new falseta collection, answer any questions you might have and catch up with you all. I’ve also added a small change to most of the pages of my website: vertical spacing of the texts. I think it looks much better, and I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me years ago (or why nobody pointed it out). It’ll take a lot of work to add that change to some of the pages that have many letras (siguriya and soleá classification pages, mostly), but I’ll be looking into it between now and 2024. Here’s a link to read more about the new falseta collection: http://canteytoque.es/falsetacollectionNew_i.htm

Hey Stu, Likewise! Yeah, I remember that. I accompanied you downhill to that scary el Chicle neighborhood so you could have classes with Jesús el Guardia or maybe Periquín. Afterward, I said I was going to hang out there and let you go back on your own, which you weren’t thrilled to hear, and rightly so. I knew el Chicle wasn’t actually dangerous. I often go there to get my hair cut and to buy some really good bread. The streets are filthy and many people who live there are oddly unfriendly, but things aren’t nearly as bad as they look. A lot of jerezanos are afraid to go there. When asking strangers for directions, I’ve been told to avoid it at all costs, but I think it’s an unfair reputation that was fairly earned 20 years ago. So, you’re still playing, then?

Mark: I had a brief look online and saw that there’s been talk in recent years of a shift away from http in favor of https. I saw something about Chrome no longer supporting http, but Chrome is my browser, I’ve updated it recently and I haven’t had that problem for a long time now. Assuming that what I read is true and that I’ve interpreted it correctly, it seems unlikely that the problem has to do with not keeping your browser updated, although that’s the first thing I’d look at, because updating it can only be a good thing, I guess. I’m no expert, so don’t take my word for it. I see you haven’t mentioned what browser you’re using. If you’d rather not say, you could try looking for a forum that deals with your browser’s issues and ask there, or some kind of consultation/troubleshooting service provided by your browser. HR: Thanks for saying that, and I’m glad you’re enjoying the website. If you’re playing is in compás, it’s flamenco. It’s the foundation, the walls and the roof of your house. How you paint the outside and decorate the inside is another matter (and nobody’s business but your own, but you might want to look at your neighbors’ houses from time to time to get some ideas). I’m distributing the new collection as email attachments. The scores are in one PDF and the audios are MP3s in two zipped folders. Sending it all in two messages, the total attachment size of each is less than 15 megs. I had planned on recording video, but the file sizes would be too big and I’m too ugly. Everyone: I’ve just uploaded updated versions of the siguiriya and soleá pages. Thought it was going to be much more work. I mentioned “vertical spacing” in my first post. It means the spacing between lines of text. I think the pages look much better now (less cramped). If anyone has any suggestions for further improvement, feel free to let me know.
