RE: What Happened to the El Tempul C... (in reply to mark indigo)
I think this is a great idea! To me quarterly seems about right. I think we should only have two categories though - beginner and intermediate. I think advance players have enough reward and external motivations that they do not need a challenge. Advanced players can select the material and present it. I don't think anyone would be insulted.
As a suggestion
1) beginners should be anyone that can't really hold a barre chord and has limited rhytmic skills, like they can't strum a buleria.
2) Intermediates can hold some barre chords and can strum a bulerias from good to better.
3) Advanced are anyone that doesn't fit in group 1 or 2. They are out of the challenge. They present the material and judge the competition. Every contestent should be judged, and everyone should be given one positive encouragement in the process so they can be motivated to improve.
We can go through all of the major palos, the only problem is picking material that is suitable. For example, as a suggestion to the advanced players, I like the guajiras John O. uploaded, it is suitable for intermediates and first position parts can be simplified for beginners.

I can honestly say I thought I thought of it myself...
I agree with Ron and Flo, people self select what level they want.
Now, I am off for a hike in the woods and then going to practice guitar!
When I made my weight class suggestion, it was intended that people would choose their own, however, it also occurred to me that members would encourage each other to move up, when some people didn't feel confident enough to do so of their own accord.
Sometimes people don't know how good they are until it's brought to their attention.

This is coming from the guy who spent 2 entire forum pages writing about why he didnt want to learn "El tempul"
i cant remember why i was resisting so passionately lol i think i had something i was getting ready for ...my show or something so i couldnt really comit there was so many other things i needed to work on but i was fully comited to spectating you guys..
Allright il look around some ideas of some of the stuff to use in the challenges, feel free to make suggestions too..i might have the tab....se how we go.
all we can do is get started slowly and we will learn from the first one on how to be better at doing this challenge and judging thing.
the idea is to push everyone just a litlle bit beyond what they can allready do now, and the goal is to get it off the ground as soon as posible so that it dosent lose momentum.. i defenetly want some moraito in there... for maybe intermediates ?
feel free to start suggesting...but keep in mind one of us has to have the tab.. and do it with an audio sample so that its eazyer to get an idea of the difficulty or the falsetas you are thinking off..
as i said we are learning from the first one
everyone can make theyr challenge suggestions here...please do it with an audio and specifie the level you nominate it for..for the first one i think we can try beginner, intermediate ?...the rest judges, spectates and gets excited for the next batch of challenges ? see how it works ?
