RE: Rasgueados= fingers cocked? or free? (in reply to ToddK)
English is strange. Isnt cock another word for dick? And dick another word for cock? Why are there parents that call their sons Dick? Why are there drinks which are called cocktails? And isnt that funny that pilots work in a cockpit????
My post was just a chain o thoughts which came into my mind when thinking about the (for me new) word "cocking... Its just another word of the doublemaeaning words which I dont understand..
Well forget my post. I just wanted to throw some offtopic in to see what happens. Well,.. eehm.. yes. .. forget it.

Doit, You are obsessed with gays and male genetalia!
I remember once going up to the bar and seeing a bottle of liquor called "BOLS".
I thought it quite pornographic, or thought at least pretty anti-establishment anyway, so I was quite intrigued. (These were the Monty Python years remember.)
I was tempted to have a try-taste of it, but I was in with a girlfriend and couldn't get up the courage to ask for two of them!..
cheers
Ron

Doing rasgueados without loading will always result in a half-ass rasgueo, no matter who you are. If anyone disagrees, post a clip of a total free-fingers approach and prepare to be creamed.
Yak, I don't think anybody could really "cream" this??
RE: Rasgueados= fingers cocked? or free? (in reply to Doitsujin)
Ron, BOLS is a dutch type of liquor. It's called "jenever". You have "old jenever"and "young jenever". I never understood the difference. It's not very popular these days and concidered as an old man's drink. There are many jenever brands in Holland like bols, klarijn and berenburger. I guess it's our whiskey. This concludes a dutch cultural lesson on forgetting our daily troubles.

Well.. ehm.. Maybe Im a gay-magnet...? Poor me... Well,.. but I can say, If I buy clothes which women should like... I would prefer Gay-sellers from now on. I made some experiences with these clothes I buyed there. And they were so nice. I got a drink while waiting. Thats unusual.

I personally don't 'cock'! LOL! How did this discussion bounce back here again?! Haven't been into flamenco for some time now, just haven't had the extra time. Just decided to drop by to see how things were.

I really hope u dont take this the wrong way, but if it was that eazy , perhaps u never were, cause its like a drug, once in theres no out, its not exactly something u are "Into" its more like something that gets into you and dosent ever leave you alone.
but absoluteley nothing wrong with that..u are probably very good at classical, serious no direspect intended, there was no other threads tonight so i joined this, if what i said offends u il take it down.
then again i dont know anything about u lol, i could be wrong
RE: Rasgueados= fingers cocked? or free? (in reply to Doitsujin)
No offence at all! If I had the extra time, I'd actually continue learning more of flamenco. But sadly, time doesn't permit. What can I do if both work and play revolves around classical guitar? All I can do is play for my own enjoyment whatever I previously learnt and continue listening to the records I have. My flamenco tab and method books all lying around but yet I can't devote time to it due to many other commitments. I feel I don't have enough time for even what I'm trying to do now.
That being said, I agree with the video Ron posted. Try 'creaming' that.

thats the eternal question Doit, like the " Meaning of life ? " or ' Why does it burn when I pee ?"...

Thats no problem anymore for me. I got a picassomarmor last saturday. I see much clearer now. It burns when you pee? Could be an inflammation. I heared old men have this injury.. Well thanks for the word! Whats with the name Hancock? Does it exist? Welll....

Adam del Monte says to use both attacks as you like for variation in sound color. What he calls the 'pushed' rasgeo, non-flicked, is more difficult to learn, and gives a softer, less percussive attack, because each finger is not sprung against resistance, but just pushed from the forearm muscles. Pushed rasgeo also makes your arm more tired. Another thing he does differently is to use all fingers in the Marote roll, where most players use only a & m on the downstroke. Some use only m.

Another video example:
Watch his right hand at about 2:50 and again at about 6:10.
Perhaps it's just his style of playing though, I don't know.
I am trying to practice both because I like the strong, percussive sound of the the "flicked" ras. sometimes, but I also find it hard to get my hand into position fast enough. The free ras. takes no time to prepare as your hand is always ready, but it takes a lot of work to get this one even and smooth.

I am working on rasgueado which is a weak point in my playing, so I am rereading some posts.
quote:
No one I know does rasgueados with the fingers spread way out, at least from the "starting" position, all the fingers touch each other before they attack the strings.
I actually do it with separated fingers. I've just tried with fingers touching each other but it's rather uncomfortable.
RE: Rasgueados= fingers cocked? or free? (in reply to Filip)
Maybe it's just a matter of anatomy? I have the opposite "problem". A while back I asked a question about friction between fingers while doing arpeggio because, no matter how hard I try, I just can't keep m and a completely apart. I guess we just got to do what works best with the way our body is set up.

Verbal descriptions can be misleading. Even if you have extremely thin fingers, they can still be touching, like Vicente here at 1:00, and 3:56
Please note as well how close he puts his ami together for arpegios. If you feel that IS how you are doing it than fine. But if you are spreading out farther than you see him do, I don’t recommend it.
RE: Rasgueados= fingers cocked? or free? (in reply to Doitsujin)
I see what you mean Ricardo. I am sure that I am not stretching my fingers on purpose, though maybe sometimes they might be touching each other a bit at some moments. I will try to make a video from a good angle.
