English is strange. Isnt cock another word for dick? And dick another word for cock? Why are there parents that call their sons Dick? Why are there drinks which are called cocktails? And isnt that funny that pilots work in a cockpit???? [&:]

My post was just a chain o thoughts which came into my mind when thinking about the (for me new) word "cocking... Its just another word of the doublemaeaning words which I dont understand..

Well forget my post. I just wanted to throw some offtopic in to see what happens. Well,.. eehm.. yes. .. forget it.

Doit, what about "schwanz". They have double-meaning words in every language I guess.[:)]

I just want to tease you because homophobia as you often exhibit, is usually the first sign before coming out of the closet.[&o][:D][:D][:D]

Well, yes. In german are tons of strange words with doublemeanings. Ok, that was interesting. Lets fade back to "flipping"fngers or without flip...[&:]

Oh no man, flipping someone the finger is a hand gesture that says "F you!!". "Flicking" is a better word.

Doit,
You are obsessed with gays and male genetalia! [:D][:D][:D]

I remember once going up to the bar and seeing a bottle of liquor called "BOLS".

I thought it quite pornographic, or thought at least pretty anti-establishment anyway, so I was quite intrigued.
(These were the Monty Python years remember.)

I was tempted to have a try-taste of it, but I was in with a girlfriend and couldn't get up the courage to ask for two of them!..[:D]

cheers

Ron

Yak,
I don't think anybody could really "cream" this??

I don't see any "cocking" going on there?

koella -> RE: Rasgueados= fingers cocked? or free? (Mar. 10 2007 21:08:24)

Ron, BOLS is a dutch type of liquor. It's called "jenever". You have "old jenever"and "young jenever". I never understood the difference. It's not very popular these days and concidered as an old man's drink. There are many jenever brands in Holland like bols, klarijn and berenburger. I guess it's our whiskey. This concludes a dutch cultural lesson on forgetting our daily troubles.[:D]

I dont know what kind of troubles you have Ron, but I have many tiny ones too, at the moment.
You know liquor is not the answer. It never is..[8|]

Wine is !! [8D]

I personally don't 'cock'! LOL! How did this discussion bounce back here again?! [:D] Haven't been into flamenco for some time now, just haven't had the extra time. Just decided to drop by to see how things were.

Cheers to all,
Cheston

I don't cock anything except guns. I said load, not cock. Wow, this thread is going downhill fast[:D][:D][:D].

Skai -> RE: Rasgueados= fingers cocked? or free? (Mar. 12 2007 13:59:41)

No offence at all! If I had the extra time, I'd actually continue learning more of flamenco. But sadly, time doesn't permit. What can I do if both work and play revolves around classical guitar? [:D] All I can do is play for my own enjoyment whatever I previously learnt and continue listening to the records I have. My flamenco tab and method books all lying around but yet I can't devote time to it due to many other commitments. I feel I don't have enough time for even what I'm trying to do now.

That being said, I agree with the video Ron posted. Try 'creaming' that. [8D]

Arash -> RE: Rasgueados= fingers cocked? or free? (Mar. 13 2007 11:11:16)

Todd,

maybe i miss something but my question is : how can you cock your fingers and flick them from meat of the thumb when you hold a pick with P and I ?

I mean the only way i can imagine when playing with pick is : flick E-A-M from inside of your hand and not the thumb , or EAM free hand.....

Doitsujin -> RE: Rasgueados= fingers cocked? or free? (Mar. 13 2007 22:43:00)

Joe Cocker![:-]

veet -> RE: Rasgueados= fingers cocked? or free? (Mar. 16 2007 2:09:51)

Adam del Monte says to use both attacks as you like for variation in sound color. What he calls the 'pushed' rasgeo, non-flicked, is more difficult to learn, and gives a softer, less percussive attack, because each finger is not sprung against resistance, but just pushed from the forearm muscles. Pushed rasgeo also makes your arm more tired. Another thing he does differently is to use all fingers in the Marote roll, where most players use only a & m on the downstroke. Some use only m.

Use whatever sounds good

Wannabee -> RE: Rasgueados= fingers cocked? or free? (Mar. 18 2007 1:12:23)

Another video example:

Watch his right hand at about 2:50 and again at about 6:10.

Perhaps it's just his style of playing though, I don't know.

I am trying to practice both because I like the strong, percussive sound of the the "flicked" ras. sometimes, but I also find it hard to get my hand into position fast enough. The free ras. takes no time to prepare as your hand is always ready, but it takes a lot of work to get this one even and smooth.

Filip -> RE: Rasgueados= fingers cocked? or free? (Dec. 1 2019 17:45:21)

I am working on rasgueado which is a weak point in my playing, so I am rereading some posts.

quote:

No one I know does rasgueados with the fingers spread way out, at least from the "starting" position, all the fingers touch each other before they attack the strings.

I actually do it with separated fingers. I've just tried with fingers touching each other but it's rather uncomfortable.

Piwin -> RE: Rasgueados= fingers cocked? or free? (Dec. 1 2019 20:18:19)

Maybe it's just a matter of anatomy?
I have the opposite "problem". A while back I asked a question about friction between fingers while doing arpeggio because, no matter how hard I try, I just can't keep m and a completely apart. I guess we just got to do what works best with the way our body is set up.

Filip -> RE: Rasgueados= fingers cocked? or free? (Dec. 1 2019 21:52:53)

Right, anatomy could be a reasonable explanation. When it comes to arpeggio, my fingers are also separated when I play it.

Verbal descriptions can be misleading. Even if you have extremely thin fingers, they can still be touching, like Vicente here at 1:00, and 3:56

Please note as well how close he puts his ami together for arpegios. If you feel that IS how you are doing it than fine. But if you are spreading out farther than you see him do, I don’t recommend it.

Filip -> RE: Rasgueados= fingers cocked? or free? (Dec. 3 2019 20:13:39)

I see what you mean Ricardo. I am sure that I am not stretching my fingers on purpose, though maybe sometimes they might be touching each other a bit at some moments. I will try to make a video from a good angle.
