I just bought a LP at a secondhand store. It´s called "Flamenco guitar" and it´s recorded in 1969 by Phillip John Lee. He´s english. He´s got a very raw sound. The style is Sabicas style, he plays in compas and grooves quite a bit. Anybody heard of him? where did he go?
We have a "phil" here at the foro.

RE: Phillip John Lee??? anybody know... (in reply to duende)
Hi Duende i've also got the same LP which i think its absolutly brilliant . All i know about him now is that he lives in London and still gives lessons , my friend antd tutor Matt had a lesson with him .you can search the net for him and i think you will find him on the flamenco ring site . I emailed him years back as i wanted to know if he had any more recordings on cd which he has a live concert in the America.

I learned guitar with PJL for two years back in the '80s. He left London and lived in Los Angeles for about 10 years. He returned to London a while back. You can find his site easily via Google by typing his name, although the site is not very informative. I would like to learn from him again but I don't live in the same country anymore. His recordings includes the one you got, which is a very old one. There is one called Kaleidoscope. Another LP called Five Swords produced in 1987 with an excellent first Buleria, and a second Buleria with percussions by his brother Simon. This LP has a few non-flamenco recordings as well. The latest one and the only CD is L.A. Concert.

As above. I bought his first record when it was new and have been an admirer all these years. PJL teaches in London and haas an incredible ability to count out every single falseta when he teaches. He still plays with that 'raw' energy and has imaculate compas.
