RE: Rip/End of Hermanos Sanchis Lopez (in reply to Manitas de Lata

Thanks for the news. That is sad. The best alternative to concert level instruments, basically it means the market there is unfilled. But as they say, there wasn’t much of a market anyway. People want cheap or they want a collector item. I didn’t know the mandola was Sanchis, that is pretty cool. I remember some brief time Niño Josele was using a Sanchis with Paco in 2004 or so. Estebanana made a comment about them using a hot glue gun at some point, so I considered them to be a type of “factory” built instrument. The top line limited Carpio back in the early 2000’s (the video with Paco holding one) was a concert level instruments, although the ones I tried did not compete with the Conde’s I owned (which were more expensive anyway). But I was always more than satisfied with my 1F Arce by the sons, and none of my guitars have elicited offers to purchase more than that one. I guess I should now offer it for $12,000.

Here she is in the Castle of Sanlucar

Also I recorded live in Fresno with Jesus Montoya with this guitar:

here is my friend’s “Soleá” model, very similar to mine but with cypress:

Gerardo using one that he chose from his friends collection to use for this video, over several TOP makers. Most likely as it is so close to the Felipe V condes:

And now we have to wonder. Will there be no more “good” condes after Sanchis closes??

Funny that a lot of people are comission right now guitars with them (sanchis) before they close.

many companies go bankrupt and "rebrand" the thing. Maybe this whole thing is a marketing ploy to boost sales? I had assumed the floods affected them, but odd they did not mention that. Everyone would understand that type of thing and have sympathy. They were the only company I was concerned about when I heard that news.

What do you think would be a fair price for that guitar now?

RE: Rip/End of Hermanos Sanchis Lopez (in reply to Manitas de Lata

Their problem started some years ago, when they had to change the their core business (as many in Spain) due to new commercial laws making less competitive to hire people.

On the other side, their traditional business (to make studio guitars and guitar parts for other Spanish makers) was eroded by the competition of South Asian factories.

Eventually they had to fire some workers and try to focus on the high end market but their fame was still associated to non-expensive guitars, so it didn't work out.
The target price of 3.600 euro for an F1 extra is very close to a luthier made guitar in Spain and in imho too much.

Also, the market of flamenco guitar is a small one and with regard with classical guitars, they just couldn't compete with Yamaha or Alhambra etc.

Still consider some of their guitars to be excellent as some of Ricardo's.

also doesnt make sense to not produce cheaper nice guitars starting from 1k , with a small/medium operation.

good grief you are still going with that? You can't produce guitars with that low price tag unless you are pushing out thousands of them on an assembly line. The cost of a guitar is 2.5k to make by a luthier, any less than that is a loss.

Like it or not, facts talk by themselves: they would have sold their company to someone else if just there was a way to make it still profitable.
I can’t see other small companies taking their place.

Wow this is shocking news! Although, maybe it isn’t really? It does seem as though the Sanchis fame dwindled off over the years. But it’s still depressing in general for the industry/ art as a whole.

Echi, thanks for the extra insight. That makes more sense knowing they lost there parts making operations to Asia.

I have a Ricardo Sanchis mid range model. And it is exactly that - average sound quality. BUT, it has the correct neck angle/setup/bridge for flamenco which is most important. Actually it is perfectly setup

Ricardo (Marlow)’s 1F Acre is indeed a special guitar! It also has a detachable headstock which is pretty cool!
