Cow bone, doesn't really matter bleached or not, whatever is available, shape the top, fit from the bottom, if you do compensate, it's the 'G' not the 'B', whatever you take off the bottom will be half that at the 12th, wear a mask, don't invite the Vicar over, or the Constable, the stuff stinks, it will raise eyebrows, people talk.

I save my own menstrual blood and mix it with 60 minute epoxy and white micro balloon pore filler. I cast it into titanium forms and bleach it white as Mongolian camel bone for ten hours.
So what I’m saying is minus the blood and iron in my nuts and bones, my imitation bone is vegan.

For that, you need fossilized Mastadon Ivory. I got some of that when it was in fashion and the stuff smelled like it had been sitting at the bottom of an outhouse for about a million years. That's how I knew it was the good stuff. I rubbed it and a giant blue Genie popped out. I screamed, he screamed even louder. Fool couldn't speak a word of English, but I made a wish anyways. He didn't seem to like that, as he punched me in the face and then jumped out my window. The last I saw of him, he was running naked down my street waving his arms about his head. Needless to say, people talked...

You really need bone from a toro de lidia, matado en la plaza; the best are from the toros most salvaje such as Miuras. "Rafael con el capote, Curro con la muleta¨

Sadly I am post menopausal so next time there's a full moon over Japan I will purchase a vial of yours from your website and use it to forge my own bone, if you'll excuse the expression.

I'm a lazy bore and ordered one from Chis Alsop Guitar in the UK. I think he shipped it to me in Arizona within 2 weeks and was well made. Of course I didn't learn nearly as much, but I didn't have to suffer either.

If you need nuts of saddles just order packs of ten or so on eBay. Bone, it doesn’t matter which kind, bleached is best. It’s usually cow, camel or water buffalo depending where the seller sourced it.
It’s not vegan, guitars are not vegan. 🥑 use an avocado if your client wants a vegan nut.

Don’t bother doing this, it’s not worth it. It takes 10 hours of boiling and hourly water changes to cook all the soft tissue off of beef bones. Then you have to let it dry for days, and it’s still to greasy. Then the bone has to be cut into pieces on a band saw with a special blade and the bone dulls the blade. After that you have to boil the smaller pieces again to completely clean the grease. Then dry them again.
What you do is grab your smartphone and search for guitar nut bone on eBay and buy a package of ten that will arrive in 3 or 4 days.

Carbon fiber will deteriorate from the metal windings on the bass strings faster than bone. Bone is more resilient. Thumbs down 👎 on CF - fiber belongs in your diet not your bridge. CF is subject to abrasion damage. It’s also annoying to shape and polish, and it dulls your tools. It’s a weird material because it dulls knife edged tools, so you have to shape it abrasion tools. With bone you can use a plane to shape it and while it’s not the best material for a plane iron to work, the blade is easy to recover after making nuts and saddles. Whereas you simply wouldn’t use a plane on CF unless you’re a sadistic bastard to your tools.
Sharpening time is labor time, and you always factor in what’s going to cause excessive tool dullage and avoid that material.

I prefer my flamenco guitar spicy, doesn't have to be fast, should have some meat on the bones, can be raw or well done, as long as it doesn't sound like it's turning green on an elevator floor.

i know a guy that does these way (get young bovine bone at the butcher) , but dont know the procedure that he applies . Normally the bones are still bloody in the bag , hes lucky because normally the restaurants get all the bones.
I will ask how it is his procedure , because the way that you said is very time consuming, and hard work.

I don’t want to know really. Please don’t waste time. It’s easier to order them from one of the guitar making supply companies.

Thanks Rob. I keep seeing buffalo bone too. Can’t imagine there are many advantages over cattle bone.
