I didn’t like the presenters attitude, he says finishes with VOC’s that require solvents are under attack by the government. But m glad the government is giving oversight and limits to nasty solvents and finishes with VOCs . He’s also missing the fact that there are in case of us instrument makers, outfits that make oil resin varnishes in small bespoke batches and they are not prohibitively expensive. If in the case of a furniture maker or a cabinet shop with high volume, and China produces all that stuff now without a lot of environmental oversight, then there already exist co polymer UV curing products.
Sure this looks like an interesting finish, but it’s highly proprietary and I was unable to get any information about how it’s formulated. And what are its properties in regard to damping etc.
I’m tempted to put myself in danger of being set in my ways and sticking with shellac 😆
There are a number of UV cure finishes on the market. Some cure almost instantaneously. I believe Cardinal Finishes sells sealers, pore fillers and topcoats that will cure in just a few seconds with a UV lamp. Be sure to wear UV protective eyewear.
