I eventually found the appearance of my bit of washing up sponge mute offensive. I didn't find much online of any quality and good looks, so I thought I would make my own mute.
It's a bit of foam tube and the end plug cut down the middle from a Fender guitar stand attachment, with a backing of some veneer someone gave me ages ago. It works a treat, and I think it looks quite pretty. I will upload a photo when the site stops giving me an upload error.

I have been playing with a mute most of last week after Orson recommended I do so. I recommend most of us do this, because when you take it off you'll think you have the best sounding guitar in the world

I got the flamenco version of this one linked below. It cost about £7 and still works fine after years of use. I find it helpful for rhythm and technique. And yes the guitar does sound great when you take it off again! Not only because it's no longer muted, but also because one is playing better.
I know this is cheap so that's cool. But what is the difference between this and a piece of cloth/sponge etc.

Nothing much except convenience I expect. I wanted to treat my guitar to more than a used dish sponge. Instead of buying a new sponge and cutting it, I splashed out £7 with a string order and bought this. I've had it for years and use it alot, so £7 is nothing. For me, this is better than a piece of cloth. Cloth came too far away from the bridge and changed the feel/way the strings respond and also didn't mute that well.

error '80070070' seems to relate to not enough disk space on the server you are trying to upload the image to. It has happened a couple of times before here and seems to resolve itself in an hour or two, possibly because of some automated maintenance (I can't imagine that Simon sees these in real time and fixes them within the hour, so it must be something automated)

It has been some weeks now, no photos. I wonder if we could at some point archive the bulk as read only on a separate server (perhaps from 10 years back or so) and leave space for the future?
