RE: Antonio Rey album finally out (in reply to JasonM)
Thanx Jason.
Have the first track going, fubared foot soaking in hot Epsom salts bath, thinking this first track is a touch soft for my personal taste but perhaps perfect for watching the sun going down through the yellow half gone Birch and Cotten wood leaves.
Should have poured a glass of wine before I sat down. Second track kinda soft for me too. Masterful playing throughout though, I only play this well in my dreams. Some sweet picado just before the lady begins to sing.
I'll let the rest soak in...

That lady singing is actually his younger brother. Don’t feel bad for being fooled though, maybe that’s his intent LoL! Yeah the album has a lot of light fare on the menu. I’m not that crazy about a lot of it.
Macho, I thought the album got pushed back?. But to be honest I wasn’t paying much attention and might have missed the release. Sorry about the dinner.

Not his best stuff IMO but the level of the playing is very very high. Some interesting farruca falsetas, the bulerias is good for me-saw him play that live. The alegrias has some incredible chops. There is a pop tune I skip over every time, and there are a couple group type tunes that are fair to good. Fandango and rondena.....great playing but the compositions didn't really stick to me.
There is a video out there with him playing some of the farruca and somehow seeing him play it is more impressive than just hearing it-that's weird. But that could be why I like the buleria so much. I've listened to the cd a fair amount and I was talking to a buddy and we compared it to VA's last effort and agreed VA's record was on a whole other level as far as composition. My friend is done listening to it, and he is a huge fan. Guy's still an amazing player.

Ah. That used to be Román Vicenti´s job
They would often arrange lovely duet accompaniment together. Now Antonio is on to his solo guitar concert career. I must say I was impressed with los Hermanos hemelos duo that sings every cante in perfect tandem in his concert DVD. I have never heard two cantaores sing the exact same like that except for Sevillanas.

Well now I feel silly for only paying attention to the guitar...
I've always apreciated new material so I don't mind trying it out.

Yes, they did push it back, though not to September. Maybe it was early June? I could've sworn that I posted about it then, but I don't see the comment on my user's list.
