String randomly snapped while in case

Hello all, recently I was practicing on my 2 month old Marlon Navarro for about an hour, then let it sit in its case for another hour and a half. Opened up the case and saw that its high E string snapped during its time in the case. Is this normal at all? or cause for concern? I ask because without measuring (don't have an action gauge atm), just by playing, I have felt like the action has risen since I got it (was originally measured at around 2.8mm at 12th fret by my teacher). I attached some pictures here to make sure I don't have another possible rising neck issue like my previous Juan Montes guitar had. Any input especially from the lutherie would be greatly valued, thanks!

RE: String randomly snapped while in... (in reply to La Jirafa

I've had a string snap in a case. Once on and old guitar. Once on my current guitar.

Seemingly at random. I only ever put it down to a string issue. Not a guitar one.

Guess I could've been wrong though.
Suppose you have reason to be concerned with the previous issues you mention. but wouldn't a rising neck (if the action has increased) reduce any tension on strings whilst in the case?

If the brand is either luthier strings or savarez, yes this is normal. All other brands the D string normally pops.

The Savarez 520R "Red Card" A-string used to break in the case a couple of times per year at the bridge saddle on the '67 Ramirez blanca. I sanded the saddle a little and it stopped.

I've been using D'Addario Pro Arte Dynacore (hard tension) basses for years and can't recall a D string ever popping in the case. The high E string is another matter, entirely, though it was breaking on a guitar that probably should've had medium tension strings. I've since switched to La Bellas for the trebles, keeping D'Addario for the basses.

Ok, let’s add Dynacore to the list.

I've had this happen and it was due to the nut's groove for high-e string having some roughness. As the string gets tuned and retuned, it drags itself across that rough spot and is compromised, eventually breaking.

All I had to do to stop this was make sure the nut's notch/groove for the string didn't have sharp bits or rough areas.
