I'll miss this place..

From the time most of us came over from Flamenco-Teacher, I have been regularly checking this forum. Many many colorful characters have come through. I now miss the old guys and enjoy the new. I have seen several come and go.
I have never posted much and have only entered(horribly one beginners challenge. I somehow feel a(unrealistic I know)connection to the members though as I read the back and forth posts.
Thank you Simon for starting and maintaining this place so well. Thanks everyone else who has added so much. It will be strange not checking here regularly as one of my favorites. Good bye everyone, I wish you all the bes!

Oh man... More bad news. . I will definitely miss this forum. It has been quite a journey for me both here and in real life since I became a member. Interacting with other fellow members has been an extremely positive experience. I have become a better musician as a result and that's something I'm very grateful for. Definitely will miss the Falseta Swap shop. Simon, I wish you the best of luck. Take care everyone followed by a big OLE!

Extremely sad news. I have greatly enjoyed the Foro, reading it every day since I first joined – the first thing I do each morning.

Enormous thanks to Simon for such a very generous commitment of time and money to the cause. A remarkable achievement.

A profound thank you, also, to all the many contributors of wit and wisdom.

I have strenuously avoided Facebook up to now. Maybe I’ll have to reconsider. . .

It's going to be weird not coming here after 10+ years, but I totally understand.

I'm thinking of writing a script to scrape the post from the luthier section, although I'm not sure I have time and I don't want to bombard the site with http request. Hopefully Simon will be able to save this treasure of data

I have a db back up if you want a copy (in SQL Server 2008 Express format)? I could do with some help to parse, extract and publish some of the more valuable threads - perhaps in in PDF. Let me know.

What about a forum hosting place - that way the issues around security are dealt with by the company hosting the forum. I looked around and found this: https://www.proboards.com/free-forum-features

It seems to offer about the same types of features and look as foro flamenco, and is even free if external ads are OK with admin. There are other options too, for a small fee (which can be taken out from a pool of money we collect).

I was thinking a similar thing Konstantin and that looks like a pretty good package. The Foro did temporarily live on one of these off the shelf forum sites before it was set up here.

Personally I don't like Facebook and FB groups are hopeless when you want to search for stuff.

RE: I'll miss this place.. (in reply to Gummy

I am sad to see this place go.

This place helped me in so many ways and was with me through many hard times. Not only did I discover and develop my knowledge in flamenco from here, but I also met some fascinating people with fascinating ideas. Not even talk about how it helped me to speak/write English having emigrated from Argentina just a few years before. Things were quite lonely for this foreign kid and flamenco along with the people in this forum helped me through these very dark times. It's crazy how long I've been frequenting this place. Looking at my join date, this was around 2-3 months before Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. So much has happened since...

Funny timing regarding the shut down, because life had taken me away from flamenco these last couple of years and I was just starting to pick the guitar back up again.

I want to thank Simon for running this place and keeping it in check. Best admin/moderator you can ask for. I also want to thank some special people that helped me in my flamenco journey along the way. Special thanks to Ricardo for being a guiding light for members like me and always providing great advice. Special thanks to Anders who is not only a fantastic person but also the very knowledgeable luthier who I bought my first flamenco guitar from (couldn't be happier btw!). Special thanks to Grisha for always participating here and sharing his virtuosity while still remaining down to earth and an amazing human being. Special thanks to Todd for always being that uncompromising critic that says it like it is. Special thanks to Ron (RIP) for being like a fatherly/brotherly figure to a lot of us and for being one of the wisest people I've ever met. Special thanks to Giacomo/Bill/Richard/Paul and some others for being fantastic English writers/thinkers as well as flamenco aficionados. Special thanks to everyone else who ever helped me along the way. I will miss you all!

One thing is to post things live in a public forum. Another is to have them published somewhere else. Iḿ not to sure what I feel about that and I may not be the only one.
Sorry to be negative in an moment like this one, but its very easy to get caught by the "flow" and not think things over.

And sometimes its a very good idea to let go and give space to what will be new very soon. Thereś a lot of valuable information in the lutherie section but there is also a LOT of BS and personal crap.

I hope to be able to take you up on that some day Morante and meet you in person.
Same here, anyone passing by Madrid should feel free to get in touch with me. (PM for email address if anyone wants it). I'll set up a Facebook account to keep in touch with those on the foro group.

@kitarist
I wish I had expertise in IT to help. But I'd be way out of my depth with that sort of thing. If ever there is a plan some day for something, I'd be more than happy to contribute, in whichever way a lay person can.
