He doesn't use the ring finger in this picado, I asked him.
But the technique is of course valid, á la Gerardo, I guess you will use whatever works best.

2 and 3 finger picado sound completely different.
Raf is clearly using 3's in that run.
If he said he doesnt, he's messin with you. LOL

ok, here is my 3 finger picado version... Not quite the same sound like Todd is saying but if done right , it can almost sound like 2 finger.

I just watched the video again (for Luciano) and he is using three fingers except when playing slow.

Doesn't matter what he says, unless he is doing "double middle finger"

After one month without guitar and still building up los calos, here's what I decided to practice (like a man with pelo in his chest..but without the pelo)

In fact, I only wanted to participate in something here.

Nice! The only thing that I notice is that when transitioning from arpeggio to picado, you seem to pull a bit too much on that 1st string. (pull-off from f to e) I think it's better to use less movement. Just my opinion.

Ah, that's nice of you. There are other things wrong but I will practice.

I could eat fish and play the Kremona but with this guitar I need a big juicy steak..or maybe it's because of the whole month without guitar.

He's not. Actually, he's playing with the index finger twice in a row, then with the m finger. That is, he is dragging the index finger. So technically, it is only i & m fingers, but he does three strokes in one "cycle", which is why the picado has three notes on each string.

All of you dudes are monsters at this picado thing! Kind of nerve wrecking to do my first upload. Will keep on practicing though. Thanks for the inspiration everyone.

No it's 3 fingers and I pointed to a different concert where you can see clear the difference his hand looks like when doing 3 vs 2 fingers picado. Previous page.

I asked Rafa privately (as did Richard) and he told both of us individually on separate occasions that the A finger in this (solea remate picado) run was not involved.

Perhaps when or if he does it slower or normal situations for HIM...basically any time other than the two fast (230 bpm) video clips in question. Others say dragging "i" but I don't see it. I went looking for other clips of him cuz you guys have me questioning my eyes and ears. 115 bpm (32nd notes) is fast for solea, but it's not abnormal, but for 32nd's is ridiculous fast. His version of entre dos Aguas is about 115+ (faster than PDL), and he clearly can't handle the I-m picados on just two strings at that tempo, much less an extended run like this, which is why he invokes the 3 finger deal. And anyway, it is visually obvious to me what the is doing. He does it well, I admit, and it works for him. He fooled you two at least.

The camera angle was as meticulous as the playing?

It's not impossible. I used to be able to achieve such speed in my younger years.

The reset action is 1/3 x quicker LOOKING in your video vs what Rafa does ... All one needs to do is follow visually the movements of ONE FINGER during fast runs. And again guys back on page 1 at the bottom I pointed out where and how Rafa does 3 fingers picados it's obvious. THis is entering dead horse zone.

I originally thought 3-finger as well. But to beat the horse further, did you see how close a-finger is to the bridge when he does that run here that Ramzi linked?

https://youtu.be/bYzYT77veZs?t=26s

I agree that there is more movement of a than at other times due to sympathetic pull, but I figured it must be increased tension during the fast run after seeing position. Then again, I cant even attempt that run at speed, so maybe I should just keep my mouth shut. So anyway, not trying to cause a fuss, just wanted to add a perspective that I didn't think had been mentioned yet...

I believe that if in the end result you get the desired effect, using 4 or 5 fingers has little meaning.
