I need some inspiration. If you could please suggest some great modern cantaors that will be great. Possibly guys or girls that are slightly less well known.
By modern I don't mean fusion... Can't stand that stuff....

Most recently, Duquende (the "Live in Cirque d'Hiver Paris" album), Miguel Poveda (in concert in Amsterdam last week), Tomasa "La Macanita," and old Lole y Manuel stuff on youtube.
I like that Duquende album a lot, certainly recommended if you don't already have it.

the two most recent live Enrique Morente cd's.... that was last week or the week before though
Carmen Linares the "Antologia del mujer en el cante", "la luna en el rio" and "mi cante" last week
and then all the Soleá from the Magna Antología del Cante Flamenco (they are spread over several discs, but will all fit on one disc I can play in the kitchen/car)
the tracks of Manolo Franco accompanying I think it's Jeromo Segura and Ana Real that come with the Guitarra Flamenca DVD's (produced by Manuel Salado). I don't have them all.

Another interesting one is Rocio Marquez, but she has a very payo style and she used to have a habit of oversinging a bit, but I think she's better. She sounds cool and she's pretty

I just wanted to post Rocio Marquez, but you beat me to it ;) She is definately not a cantaora everyone likes, but i like her style. Reminds me on Archangel. I also like the guitarist (Alfredo Lagos), and what a conde ;), thats how a negra should sound.
I can also hear La Macanita day and night. She has such a powerful voice and she has a lovely character. This is one of my all time favourite bulerias with cante. (this vid is playback of course).

Estrella Morente, the daughter of Enrique Morente. Estrella Morente, by the way, is performing at George Washington University's Lisner Auditorium on March 19, 2014, at 8:00 PM, as part of Lisner's 2014 Flamenco Festival.
Cheers,
Bill

Honestly, I prefer digging into the past....old singers are much better. But Duquende's newest disc was not bad, and Jesus Mendez was also very good. For some great modern cante albums from a few years back you might not have heard, 3 albums produced by Vicente Amigo were very good, Remedios Amaya "Me Voy Contigo", Jose Merce "Al Amanecer", and El Pele "Canto"....they never get old for me.
