there is usually someone in every major city in the US and Europe who plays and teaches flamenco guitar, be they Spanish or otherwise. There are also usually dance classes in every major city (where you can probably find that same guy playing guitar), where you can start to get familiar with accompanying.... there are also good dvd's where you can see and hear the correct sounds and movements/techniques.

And it's not so difficult to travel to Spain (from the UK on budget airline not much over £100), and take a few lessons, video the lessons and take it home to work on, or sign up for a course, 5 days, a week, which can work out cheaper than individual private lessons.

2k or less can get you a decent blanca to learn on - I have a decent cheap blanca that I use as my "travel" guitar, cost me £800 in UK, would have been a bit cheaper from the workshop in Spain.

but it depends, you might just want to make some Spanishy-sounding nice guitar music and not bother with real flamenco.... you can always just slam those that do as "purists"

My hat is off to you guys anyway.
You have sniffed out the classic shelf in ways I am not even hoping for when I´ll finally come to realize my old plan of auditioning through and picking the most appealing pieces and performances / records.

I only know that to the contrary of my old man who used to celebrate Beethoven before all, I rather tend to the very harmonic Bach & Händel fraction.

Aisdes: I used to play the first part of Beethoven´s "Für Elise" on guitar ( which as I like to point out was actually titled "Für Terese", addressing the handsome daughter of his pharmacist), and it sounded really nice.

When back to repertoir me shall learn the whole thing.

The second part can sound really amazing on guitar. When my father played it my brothers girlfriend (a gifted pianist/piano teacher) stated "we were wrong all the time, this piece is written for the guitar and not for piano". The middle part sounds indeed like it is especially written for the guitar.

as well as listening to everything you can get hold of, and watching vids etc.

1) find a teacher - there is usually someone in every major city in the US and Europe (maybe in SA too?) who plays and teaches flamenco guitar, be they Spanish or otherwise. There are also usually dance classes in every major city (where you can probably find that same guy playing guitar), where you can start to get familiar with accompanying....

2) there are also good dvd's where you can see and hear the correct sounds and movements/techniques. Search "flamenco guitar teaching DVD's" or something like that, and then when you see what's on offer search the titles/authors on the foro archives here for reviews/discussion to help you choose. You can get them mail order from Spain if not available in your country.

3) it's not so difficult to travel to Spain (from the UK on budget airline not much over £100 - I guess probably more from SA), and take a few lessons, video the lessons and take it home to work on, or sign up for a course, 5 days, a week, which can work out cheaper than individual private lessons.
