Hinoki #2, better pictures.
The scale is 655, the back and sides are Hinoki, the top is Lutz Spruce. Back fillet rosewood. The tie block abalone mosaic with a bit pf pernambuco trim on a Indian rosewood bridge.
Sound sample forth coming, but there is a fast a dirty off the bench sound sample in the classifieds.

I used the frosted glass on the shoji door in my shop hallway as a light diffuser. I think with a few higher watt bulbs and more work with longer exposures and this set up will make some nice guitar photos. Next project excellent sound files.

The rosette evokes the visual impression of an outer protruding rim. Very nice!
I think the light is great too / well distributed and moody. Thinking that a wing of the paravent would do better as background than the cloth, though. (<- Just took another look. Maybe it´s not broad enough to cover enough background.)

Very nice design Stephen!
I love the Mother-of-Pearl tie block and the rosewood sandwiching. The over all coloring of the instrument looks nice too. I bet it looks good in any light.

A sound clip. Even though this camera is scritchey scratchy the sound of the guitar comes through. I will have a pro recording made soon, but the player will be my buddy Shouhei Osumi the Bossa Nova player. Not the same as my dirty thumbnail pushing through the strings.
Thanks for looking. Yeah the rosewood back fillet is a style I like doing on blancas. Usually to keep keep the outer edges of the lower bout from displaying flat grain wood. You can spread the two book matched halves with a rosewood fillet and keep all the grain vertical. Some sets of backs show some flat grain, and I guess that is ok, but I like the rosewood panel as a style as well as for function.
BTW this is the guitar I made following along Blackshear's Rodriguez thread. The guitar has the same Miguel Rodriguez bracing, but I'm not going to engage in any fine tuning at all. The guitar is compete and sounds fantastic.
And yes I know my compas needs an overhaul....soon ,soon.

Madagascar Rosewood - Spruce cutaway, fr those who cross over into jazz and bossa nova , or want a really super bomb dropper for a rumba gig.
655 scale, braced exactly the famous Segovia 1937 Hauser. Rubner roller bearing tuners. A beautiful French polish finish. Sound samples coming up in as few weeks. This one is sold, but always room to make more!

That is a handsome instrument (Oud?). What is the wood on the back? I understand Yew is a popular choice. Making and bending the ribs (staves?) must be a challenge.

Beautiful instruments all around. That is a sweet looking oud Hibari. If you haven't heard of luthier John Vergara, check him out. His ouds are absolutely exquisite.
I wanted to share a couple photos of my latest guitar even though it's a classical. The rosette is inspired by my favorite rosette ever, which can be seen on Ramirez flamenco guitars since the 70s. I want to use it on a flamenco soon.

Here is a soundcloud recording of the madagascar cutaway. the buyer is jazz-bossa nova composer who likes flamenco guitars and flamenco set up. My next guitar will be small bodied Maple cutaway followed by a seven string cutaway...........oh boy cut cut cut https://soundcloud.com/seablayne/faulk-madagascar-cutaway-test-lunar-waltz/s-7ytz0
I`m stunned by the playability and the sound. ARSA...flamenco puro tio... The finish is oil varnish wich I just love. On the pics ist difficult to get the expression oft he wood right. It looks alive and fresh with a warm toch.
It was a loooong way to go. During the process I made several mistakes wich I had to correct. But in this case I learn a lot about lutherie.
I just want to thank you....your posts on this foro and all your advises were a big help for me. As well I want to thank the director of el guitarero.... and of course Anders. This movie delights me and gave me all the insperaton and the courage to do it. Gracias.
