RE: Quick Simple Survey to Determine... (in reply to Florian)
Judging from the number of YouTube hits of every flamenco video posted, from Sabicas and Paco Cepero to those posted by members of the Foro, and using an obscure algorythm, there are precisely 8,583 flamenco guitarists in the entire world. The majority have never studied under Juan Martin.
Cheers,
Bill

You could add an answer like " I used his books and videos to learn and they were really helpful, but now that I think I know about flamenco, I pretend to hate his stuff..."

oh no here we go another Juan Martin fanatic who thinks i am having a go at juan
I am not...I cant help it if you are the one that just sees his name written down and title of his book and straight away assumes its a joke on him....hm ? hm ? hmmm
btw. i had the first vote and it was "I have or had Juan Martins El Arte de la Guitarra Flamenca"
as far as the study ..is going exactly as i predicted
50/50 between those that have it and those that dont
my prediction of total flamenco guitarists in the world is the total amount of copies of "Juan Martins El Arte de la Guitarra Flamenca" x 1 for the other half who dont have it...so...if this studies comes up 50/50 i am accurate (freaking genius)...now i just need the exact total copies sold around the world...so....whos got Juan's number ?

you imply by x1 that the other half actually play flamenco and those w this book can't? or you meant x2? Grisha for one claimed he started with it. Someone else that plays well on here also can't remember who.

stop confusing me man
half of the people that do flamenco have or at one point had this book and judging by my calculation around the same amount that play flamenco dont have it...so if you add em all up u get the closest total amount of flamenco guitar players in the world...........err i think.......wheres my notes
i cant think of a more common flamenco thing that anyone in the world might have to tie us all up together...world wide....and then theres the equal amount of the people who dont
here in stores u cant find any Paco de Lucia flamenco albums but u can find this book

Oh ok. Well, anything x1 is the same number you started with don't forget. So you need to multiply the number of people that have or had the book by 2x by your logic. I would personally think that more than half the people that have the book or got rid of it never got anywhere. I think Doitsujin already did the math on this came to 99% can't play flamenco that try?

ok but we dont know the total amount yet so its hard to determine what half of it or 65% of it is...so if i can get the total amount of people who have it first and multiply it by 2 and subtract 35% should give me the exact total number......right ?

I had it scanned. It helped me to start (it was very difficult to find whatever about flamenco when I started to play). But I would not reccomend it to nobody to learn from.

fair enough...
I found it useful enough at the start, nicely arranged all the traditional palos with the characteristic falsetas and riffs for palos but arranged for a beginner, a nice order of techniques and its slow introduction into pieces, cd, the material is not that bad for a beginner and the book is nicely planned out...theres plenty worst ones like "Teach yourself flamenco guitar"

True flamencos don't have internet access
And how many of those don't speak English?
This actually boils down to Fa=Fie*X Where Fa = AllFlamencos Fie = EnglishspeakingFlamencoswithInternet Given all of them are on the foro and answer the poll we can then assume Fie=2*JM Therefore Fa=2*JM*X So we need a reasonable approximation for X, which of course is the inverse of Fie/Fa.
