there should be something in the middle too...i mean theres certain things i like in rock...Elvis for example, Lenny Kravitz, Bon Jovy, Some Billy Idol, songs etc.......but i wouldn't say " i like rock or dislike it"...same with metal, i cant think of anyone i like but it changes from song to song, i dont know till i hear it....i wouldn't say i like metal or dislike it...i am indifferent to it

I was a bit of a rocker growing up before I got into flamenco and jazz. I still enjoy a screaming tube amp and wailing a guitar solo on occasion.

There's some rock I like and some I don't like.

There's some metal I like and some I don't like.

As always, there are only two genres of music for me: music I like and music I don't like.

Some of the most powerful music ever created by man. Especially devistating when loud and virtuosic. Never forget the first time I heard metallica at a friends house as a kid.....battery cranked to the max. Never heard anything like that before the power and rhythm was overwhelming. Perhaps I like it today more for nostalgic reasons, but I still listen to rock and metal occasionally.

The opening chords have a bit of a flamenco flavor and the contra tiempo compas always reminded me of the intensity of accompanying baile. Crank it up:

Here is one of my all time fav rock/metal bands. The dim 7 in the beginning is scary, and the duet G maj arpegio in the middle of the song that ends the solo trade offs still sounds impossible to me.

Never really liked "Iron Maiden" kinda stuff, but one night on driving through the snowstorm to Aberdeen from Glasgow for about 5 hours with huge lorries splashing stuff on the windscreen, there came a programme on featuring "MEGADEATH" (with John Peel commentating if I remember right) and surpriingly enough gave me the will to live that night !

Strangely enough the love affair never went forward any after that.

This is "Metal" to me now IMO for what it's worth.

Thanks man, glad I could help! I just grabbed the first in search. Its bad quality you are right, I will look for a better version.

Ron, it's spelled MEGADETH....and the leader dave mustaine, what a sad story, always trying to compete with the band he loved and got kicked out of (metallica)...and never truly beating them in terms of record sales, but coming so close. But he made good music too. The lead guitarist for Megadeth marty friedman made a cameo on our buddy BEN WOODS flametal project.

Once I started playing flamenco, I thought parts of The Call Of Ktulu could be used in a farruca, especially around 0:33.

seems there's 100's of sub genre's within metal....all with very passionate fans...

Hmm. Something told me a long time ago that a lot of you here are metalheads at heart. I grew up listening to rock and metal. Metallica is still one of my favourite bands despite having gone downhill since the 80s.

Over time though I just got bored of rock and metal. I used to listen to it quite a bit but I mostly listened to the same bands over and over again. I kept looking for new things to keep me interested and unfortunately never really found anything. In that sense, it led me into a dead end. Having said that, I have Metallica to thank for starting to play guitar. While I may appreciate flamenco more now, it's possible that if it wasn't for rock and metal I wouldn't have started playing in the first place.

Ricardo,
I loved Metallica before I got into CG and later, flamenco. I always loved their little acoustic bits and instrumental songs.

Anyone who was around during the early 1980's knows that Metallica didn't invent the style of music they played. A lot of people were doing this sort of thing, but very few thought there was any reason to record it. Not much musical talent in Metallica either--especially after Dave left. If you want to hear what a virtuoso can bring to that type of metal listen to Pantera.

I've got to post something here. Love metal! \ll/ was born in LA in 1983 when the thrash scene was blowing up here and all my brothers and sisters were 10-20 years older so it's been my bread and butter since I was a child. It was the reason I started playing guitar to begin with and I would never know Flamenco if it wasn't for metal inspiring me to pick one up. It's not flamenco but good metal is some pretty tough stuff to play. Alex Schulnik, Muhamed Suicmez, Dimebag, these are pretty talented dudes not to mention what the drummers in metal have to pull off. Now that i'm a little older Flamenco has filled that need for music with a wide range of emotions but nothing beats Slayers "Reign in blood" when you wanna get pumped up! Metal for life, Flamenco till death!
