Where? What about dancers? Artistic grant opportunities?
They usually get the ball rolling
For players. Consider relocating as well if possible. I actually
Like doing rumba gigs but I admit I am lucky cuz without
Them I would have to hustle a lot more.

I would be willing to meet on Skype, or watch any videos you are playing in. I have 15 years experience as a flamenco, 30 years experience in other styles. So let me know if you'd like some feedback from a seasoned musician.

you need to find your inner strength kehati, its no god crying that noone supports you or your parents said no or you live somewhere else...do you think anyone has it easy ? every single one of us have or had problems and difficulties and tough sacrifices to make....

but...the world really is yours amigo, noone owes you anything...noone is gonna tap you on the shoulder and ask you if you want it, you need to know what you want and find creative ways of getting there, (there's always more than one way)...there's a solution and a way to anything...what exactly is your goal ? wanna make an album ? wanna do a show ? what would make you happy...

you don't need a lot of money to do either this days...there's ways, some minimal sacrifice is required

Ok hold on ..... You just said the other day you
Only play flamenco 2 years now and needed tomatito cuz its
"easy" solo compas for practice and stuff for dance.
Sounds odd you struggle for 20 years if that is true. Musician
Heart is great but to be a flamenco means you need some
Experience accompanying like it or not. Sure it can be musically
Limiting but you should spend more time w best dancers in your area.

Exactly Flo!

Paco Peña said to me "Really, the best way to learn is to go to Spain... Madrid, Sevilla or whatever...,try to learn the basics, then try to get a job working with a dance company in a club."

"Which clubs should I try?", I said in my 19 year old naivety...

"I dunno.....try them ALL...." he said with a shrug of his shoulders.. .

As I've said before..... he's a nice guy, but he doesn't take fools gladly....

He's a practical guy...and doesn't BS you..

cheers.

Sounds like you need a higher level artist to come see you two
And settle a dispute? Always a typical issue in areas where
You don't have a lot of artists of high level. Only thing to
Offer is to share a video.... in the end the guitarists job is to
Support the dancer even if you know he or she is doing
Something wrong. Good luck.

So you have been playing for 20 years and that's why tomatito is "easy" for you?
There is no information about flamenco in your country and yet there is a flamenco dancer? the dancer must know something , he/she should know what the music sounds like for the different sections. They must at least have some music they practice with. The dancer should be able to help you assuming the dancer wants you to accompany.
I don't understand what exactly you want, I'm confused.
Do you have a YouTube channel or a video or audio of your playing ?

If I read your post correctly, Kehati, you have been working on flamenco for 20 years, which I calculate would put your age anwhere from 35 to 40 years old. You are married, but do not work. You are supported by your parents, apparently because you will not get a job. You are unhappy with your parents (who support you because you refuse to get a job) because they will not finance your desire to live in Spain.

Do you not see a pattern of self-imposed dependency here? Judging from your post, flamenco is the least of your problems. My advice would be get a grip on yourself. Get a job and create an independent life for you and your wife. You may not become a professional flamenco guitarist, but, then, very few of us have the talent or time for that. Be satisfied with creating a life of your own that includes flamenco for pleasure.

Cheers,

Bill

I am sorry to be harsh but if you had taken a job 10 years ago instead of sitting at home waiting for some miracle to happen, you could have saved up money to go to Spain or at least moved somewhere with a better music scene, or whatever.

RE: Need opinions EXTREMLY IMPORTANT (in reply to Guest

kehati--i am trying to get a clear picture of your life and it appears you have two major obstacles in front of you. first, it may be extremely difficult to make a living as a flamenco in maylasia given the culture, musical tastes, etc. your parents, and possibly your wife, may at some point stop their financial support and you have to figure out how to pay the rent and put food on the table.

the second obstacle i see is psychological. you appear to be escaping into a flamenco world where, as you state, you feel balanced yet you are having difficulties socializing and engaging in the world outside of your flamenco world. you also mentioned that when you practice well you are able to love yourself which raises the question of your ability to love yourself outside of your flamenco world. it appears your love of flamenco may be bordering on obsession at the expense of your ability to function in other areas of your life. this in itself may not be a problem but there may be an expensive price to pay--your ability to successfully function in other areas of your life.

i am not trying to put you down or call you crazy but just to point out some things that you may have to confront--which road to you want to travel. each road has it good and not so good points.

The dancer is not that open when it comes to make a improvisations with guitar.I know the importance of compas and the dancer only songs from solo compas and we only have once or twice of practice sessions before the show, before that the dancer just gave me the solo compas cd for me copy exactly whilst there's a lot of missing link in my flamenco guitar studies for I dont have any teacher. It's a pressure for me all the time when I got to learn it within short period of time and usualy the reselut are full of mistakes..never feel comfortable when playing the guitar for the dancer.Anyway the dancer is not like a professional, still unsure or scared to make mistakes fromm the way the dancer dance. So I need to play well for the dancer so that it can inspire the dancer. The dancer just came to Malaysia just 3 years ago.

kehati - I hope I am mistaken, but I get the impression that you're trying to run before you can walk!

Post a video of yourself playing so some knowledgeable people here (not me of course) can judge your level and advise you on the way forward.
No problem in not knowing, but if you really want to learn you should do whatever it takes and work hard, as everyone else does.

As mentioned by some other members here, we all have our individual circumstances to work around (work, family, money, etc). I don’t think anyone here is so lucky to be financially supported by their families to sit at home and practice. Like many others, I have to work hard during the day, support my family, often work in the evening, etc hoping to be able to play guitar for an hour in the evening by which time I’m totally brain-dead most of the times. Then, I have to pay a well deserved sum for my lessons because my teacher has worked hard for many years to learn and works hard to pass the knowledge on to me.

If your problem is that there are no good teachers where you are, I am pleased to tell you that you’ve landed in a good place (here). There are very good teachers here who do lessons on Skype, etc. All you need to do is to get a job, earn some money and pay for your lessons and make sure that you work hard enough to feel that you get value for your hard-earned money.

Good luck,
A
