You have to have vitamins A , C, D and B12 in the diet so milk, fish oils, cereals, fruit juices, raw veg...that is to say a balenced healthy diet with as little processed foods as possible is good for nail health...as well as every other aspect of your well being. Enzymes help metabolise nutrients and taking the amino acid L- cysteine is a way of improving nail strength. Biotin is basically a B complex which is a factor ( but not the only one) in nail health. Over the years I have tried everything from superglue to glass fibre to gel resins to dietary supplements etc. If you can get your nails strong from inside yourself, ie eating well and using supplements, this is by far the best method.

if you can get pass the 'luscious nails' comment.... bit some dietry stuff on the link http://www.blackmores.com.au/learning-centre/article/naturally-beautiful?gclid=CLLNrdjW0KsCFUFLpgodhnHhVQ guess we're all different but i think Pimiento speaks great words of wisdom. maybe see a natropath...? i'm no glowing example of health but it does have to come from the inside for cellular regrowth etc.... keeping the nail 'moist' ie olive oil in my case seems to do better than any hardener....so they are flexible as opposed to being rigid which will cause breaking or snapping. good luck...thanks for the post.

The irritation of metabolism mustn´t be bound to deficient diet. There can be and often are other issues depending on items like thyroid and hormonal household etc. ( = generally of sense to ensure sufficient iodine supply.) Diet wise the average nutrition will do, unless it was about special conditions like during pregnancy, undernourishment or for symptomatical treatment. Cow milk besides ain´t recommendable at all, as its contents of phosphates counters its portion of calcium. It is intended for a metabolism entirely different from human. If milk, horse milk would be optimal substitute, and the one of goat and even of sheep would be much more suitable to humans than cow milk. Most of all options however would I expect from physical strain like experienced by Jaggesphere. The same strain that helps skeleton staying in shape; weight hauling, contraction, pressure and impacts as encountered during intense physical work should provide the best precondition for strong nail growth. Whereas the opposite, physically supportive / protective measures like glueing on material and chemical treatment should only result in more weakening over time. Ruphus

I've been using a 'paint-on' nail hardener for about a year, but got sick and tired of having to clean it all off evey couple of weeks, and also I was constantly getting split and cracked nails and having to glue them. Strangely enough, very little of the damage was caused by actual playing, mostly by something else. (Usually when working at the farm). Just over a month ago I stopped using the hardener, and while my natural nails are quite thin, soft and flexible - so far I have had no nail damage at all. Just an occasional slight fraying at the tips, which is easily buffed out. Strange. . . My business activity is growing and selling fruit (Asian Pears and apples) which does demand some fairly rigourous ongoing physical activity ( hauling heavy ladders, wheelbarrowing soil, digging holes, carrying 50 lb baskets of fruit, etc. etc. etc. ). I also swim a lot. All of which seem to contribute to keeping me in reasonable physical shape for an old bugger in his late 70's. Conclusion: Maybe Ruphus has a couple of good points here? Maybe. . . Anyway, I've given up the Folic Acid tablets. Anybody in here who's pregnant want to buy the rest of the bottle? Perhaps I'll list it in the classfieds.
