I have my new set of Luthier's 20 on my guitar for 4 days. I checked that the D string is starting to tip. This is the second time. This happened with Luthier's 30 too. I have read from here that with Conde Hermanos this always happens but i didnt expected that with Luthiers. Any suggestions?
P.S. The second day i heard a string break from my guitar. I said goodbye to my first string too...

hi gounaro guess there are many factors ie guitar...scale length...action...cedar/spruce soundboards etc etc... so what i like may not work for you but used luthier 20's then 30's for the last year and a half.. always slightly dis satisfied with the volume and response..[ plus what appeared to be in consistent manufacturing..ie bubbled trebles etc...] particulary with the g string
two sets i tried recently which have greatly improved the sound and response of my guitar are ramirez med tension but more so the hannabach titanyl med-high tension set [really enjoying these at present]
think i have tried most strings avail at stringsbymail...

Have a D on my guitar. Luthier Concert Dark Silver Set 35 - 4th string (D), medium-high tension. Had it break on me once but I have not played with very much flamenco rasgueado so it has not taken the usual beating. I like the tone it produces.

I have never had a Luthier D or other string break on me. That being said I switched to D'addario for the moment because the gauges and longevity are better suited for me. Do other brands give you problems with the D? It is always the first to go let's face it.

odd do you use the capo here? usually either nut or saddle.... as said previously no issue with luthier breaking..[any string for that matter, but i do change my basses every 3-4 weeks, trebles every 7=8 weeks] could be the fret or capo cutting string...maybe? hope you find the right string ...not really sure they exist, but you kind of work out what works....

I use the capo at 3rd - 4th fret but the strings breaks where i put my finger. I never put capo too much near to the fret. I dont why this happens all the time. I like a lot the sound of Luthier's 20 but i dont want to buy strings all the time. I became the best customer of StringsByMail.
Any other strings with familiar sound with Luthier 20?

gounaro, when I used 20s the D was always the first to break, and right around the 3rd to 5th fret. Often it was due to needing to change the strings, but the D would also randomly break when new or after only a few days like you describe. When I ditched the 20s and switched to 30s I never had a random blow out again.
But I can't stand how luthier 30s lose their initial crispness within a week. So D'addarios tend to last longer?

I agree with you... The Luthier 30 lose their sound very quickly. I think i will quit with Luthier. Maybe i'll go back to D' Addario Composites for basses. For trebles i already have Hannabach Goldin. They're hurt my fingers but i'll get use of them.
Very crispy and briliiant sound for flamenco. Very loud strings!
P.S. I dont know if D' Addarios live longer but surely they're very realiable.

on my guitar D'Addarios last longer, and they sound great. Plus they are very affordable. Luthier 20 was one of my favourites, but since I lowered the action they buzz too much. I will try the 30? blue pack, but with those the G is thick and horrible, so prb a composite G from d'addario.

Hey,
yes either composite or J45s. The composite sounds a bit harsh to my ear sometimes though, so I switch to EJ45. I am definitely curious about Ramirez strings that were mentioned above, but often guitar name brand strings are expensive and not that great.

Often I have bought multi packs of brand X, and have a problem that it is a bad batch of strings. Would be a good idea to buy strings from different sources, regardless of the brand name. Not anyone's fault, just something I have noticed over the years of buying tons of strings, often in bulk. D string is thinest so always first to go, have had problems with all strings breaking except the G, but we know there are intonation problems there, etc.
Good luck, and don't write off any one brand till you have given em a fair chance.
