I dont know anything much about the yamaha guitars, but i think you can go with a full size guitar, he is going to be growing alot soon Medium tension sounds good blisterwise i guess, but they might be hard to control for smaller hands, for example they might drag them so it becomes a bend or the strings touch eachother, so maybe let him try your guitar first or something, to check his hand size? I think i saw Jason Mcguire's student playing a full size guitar at a younger age, he still is a kid too, also grisha i think.. Maybe starting with a full size will make it seem smaller when he grows and makes it even easier for him to play at an older age, since he will be used to the stretch allready, allowing for incredible flexibility. By the way, great to buy him a guitar, hope he will keep the interest up, no doubt he will become very good if he does!
