Arcangel Fernandez #102, 1960

Hello everyone,

I'm hoping that someone may be able to guide me in the right direction.

My father recently passed away and I am in possession of his guitar, a 1960 A.F., numbered 102 and signed on the label. While I am not looking to sell it, I wonder if anyone can direct me to where I might have it valued (I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada) for insurance purposes or, at least, get an idea of its value.

It seems to be in good condition (but what do I know?!?), although there is some cracking from the bottom of the rosette to the base of the guitar, probably due to the weather here. What should I do about that, if anything? My father played it regularly, after buying it second-hand in London in 1965.

Best wishes and thank you!

First protect it from drying out and cracking worse in a humidified room 45-50% or with a in case guitar humidifier. Second get it repaired as soon as financially feasible by a competent luthier who is very well known for his repair work.
This is a desirable guitar from a well known maker, any money spent having it repaired will be easily recouped if it is ever sold, so get it done right.

A guitars top is made up of two book matched pieces glued together at the centre, perhaps it is the centre seem separating.
It would be nice if you could post some pictures for us to see.

Maybe you are seeing cracks (crazing) in the finish?
Not so common with French Polish but possible.

I second the motion for R. E. Brune. He appraised my mint 1982 Arcangel Fernandez blanca and my 1973 Jose Romanillos classical, each for a very reasonable charge. He is an internationally recognized authority on guitars. He is one of America;s best known guitar makers, and a great guy to do business with.
