RE: Ole! Spain's flamenco declared a... (in reply to JasonMcGuire)
Well oh well... I dont know
Canal sur, (Andalucian television) had a program in order to promote the unicef thing.
I saw 10 minuts. A guy playing 10 million notes on a piano and some "sweet" teny girls singing lelele le por tangos..... I turned of the television and thought about changing my musical taste to something else.
This official promoted side of flamenco I find extremely boring just as I do with what is presented in big events like the Bienal de Sevilla.
Carlos Saura said, when they made his new film, flamenco flamenco, official, that the artform flamenco doesnt need this kind of UNICEF thing. Its strong enough in itself. I totally agree and I totally dislike when something becomes an institution.

you could choose something different than a piano performance to promote flamenco... probably flamenco wont die without it, but surely it does no harm.
then again we have different tastes coz i really like Bienal de Sevilla and that kind of stuff (i only know from videos from internet).

I agree , I believe this event is a world official step to transform flamenco as another “big business”, which means the beginning of it's impoverishment as a form of ART

at the very least, i hope the true flamenco artists out there start to get the recognition they deserve,
and im sure that no matter what happens, those of you who truly understand and live the artform that is flamenco, will continue to keep it alive in its pure form.

Yes. Only difference to other art forms is, that porn is NOT ONLY mental entertainment but also physical "the movie itself" - if you want to call it that way - is art.

LOL folklore is art. Or in other words: what else is art, if not entertaining?
? nope. Folklore is something unspectacular completely normal... like eating something. I think 90% of the flamenco that is going on is seriously NOT art. Its just having some fun together or making some bucks without any higher reason or .....art.. pfff.
True ARTists in flamenco are rare.
Why do they wanna be ARTists?? Why? Everybody knows that people who make real art...are usually completely nuts. And if it is very good art, I fall asleep immediately. Art is normally something very very boooring.. so why do they try to put flamenco in the area of art? ...I dont get it..sorry.
