Cajon info

Hello,
my girlfriend wants to learn to play cajon, and I want to buy here one for her birthday.
Now I was looking around and there are so much differences in prices, from 50 up to 800 euro's.
Anyone experience with cajons around 120 euro's?
Thinks to look after when choosing a cajon, because I dont know much about it?

PS: I was testing here out if she could follow some compasses and telling me were the 1 was, or the 3 or the 6 etc. and she picks it up very quickly, I was pleased :) (and jealous because she seems to have a natural feeling for it)

Hello Kozz,
I purchased my Cajon from meinlpercussion and I'm so pleased with it ,
mine is Model-no:HCAJ1NT , Rubber Wood there are varied models with strange cool shapes check 'em out .
I got it for 120 euro's or so I can't really remember exactly.
I did some gigs with it and my friends was impressed with it , ( like its not that expensive but has a very nice sound ) also it is supported with two bass strings inside.

Just reading about cajons, damn thats a whole world in itselves also. Snares, bells, adjustings screws, bass adjustment, rubber slaps, and very nice add-ons etc.

I thought the slap-side was always made of wood, but rubber-wood seems nice too.
Does it mean it doesn't get that loud, but more subtile?

The rubber means you can practise "safe slapping".

just make sure she's not violent.. a girl good at cajon would slap really really hard...

She didn't understand at first but we've went to a flamenco concert with an overenthausiastic cajon player, and she immediatly understood.
That what I love about her, every musician should play in order for the vibe.

I found some stores here in Eindhoven and I am gonna spent the rest of the midday slamming cajones.

Decission has been made.
Those rubber-wood things looked very scary to me, it isn't rubber but cloth, so that was a no-go.

Eventually I decided to go for the Meinl HCAJ3NT.
(And she better be happy with it

)

Actually it also is a very nice seat to play guitar on...hmmmm

the Udu I made myself.
Actually the Udu was carried by woman in South Africa. They were not allowed to make music, but carried water in such vessels and then they could make music also. Clever.
In India they have a simalar instrument, a ghatam.
