PLEASE HELP: Composition Challenge
PLEASE HELP: Composition Challenge
Dear all:
As the final month, leading to the submission deadline (3/30/10) starts, I reiterate an appeal for help in organizing this complex challenge:
The project’s feasibility and success will largely depend on the number of entries we will receive, and in part on the national diversity of the composers. On this subject, while I realize I cannot ask that you become inspired and compose, I can only hope that many members are industriously composing as I write this.
However, I would really appreciate some help in the following areas:
1. Receiving and gathering all Mp3 entries into a coherent digital file which we will send to CD Baby, along with all necessary titles and descriptions; 2. [I have no idea if this is possible but] reviewing all entries to make sure volumes, effects and sound will have some degree of uniformity; 3. Creating the CD cover artwork, which is required by CDBaby even when only offering Mp3 and which will turn into the CD cover after selections will have been completed; 4. Writing the introduction of the Challenge for the CDBaby designated page (I can do this, but would love some input); 5. Creating a video for youtube promoting the designated CD baby site, perhaps a slide show, including images of the contestants synched with clips of their respective work;
Please let me know as soon as possible if you have the time and ability to provide some assistance.
Thank you so much.

effects and sound will have some degree of uniformity
well that would be a litlle harder cause everyone has their own setup and preferences... i wouldnt touch anyones sound without the ok from them, i assume they mixed it how they want it...
but let me know if theres anything u need help with

? Wasnt the idea of this challenge how spain sounds to "us" and not to the person with the fingers on the effect-levers...?
i can understand what he means...spain might sound a certain way to you but if you dont know to reporoduce it in an audio ...the audio might not sound exactly how it sounded in your head..
so if u got the sound just how u like it fine...but if anyone who might not necesarely be experienced with this sort of thing and needs help with audio theres no reason why they couldnt get it
i think everyone who submits should state if they are happy with thier sound or need some help

RE: PLEASE HELP: Composition Challenge (in reply to Florian)
Thank you, Escribano and Florian, for your kind offers. I am counting on you.
Doits, all I meant really had to do with volume, yet given my inexperience with this area -sound engineering- I am submitting to you (all) a concept.. to create a grid of songs with a uniform “volume”. I do not mean that anyone should upset the equalization choices of the composer, but harmonize the volume so that when one scrolls through the songs posted on CD Baby's site, there will not be any unpleasant discrepancy.

I understand perfectly what you mean gj,
Like in the various "Challenges" we have from time to time, you have to adjust the volume knob for each one.
OK studios go for standard 0dB and we have to adjust each recording so that the listener can listen to them all without jumping up to to turn the volume right up on one and then jumping up again to avoid getting blasted away on the next one.
We really need an overall Producer...
Maybe ToddK if he's not too busy?
(I'll put this cat picture in to see if it helps ...)
Puleeez Todd....
cheers,
Ron

Another question.... Do I have to buy the CD in order to be able to hear the whole tracks? Or do the foro-people get the mp3s for free here in this thread?

I would hope/expect the members to vote by downloading their favourite track(s). However, we may need to post on the foro the mp3 of each piece so to allow the general audience to hear the entire track (as CDBaby only allows 30 seconds of playing time).
At_Leo, thank you.
I reported the list as sent by Hem, however I agree that we should have the relevant designation of chosen palo for each entry.
Finally, I would like a paragraph or two, from each artist, about who they are and their music in the challenge. These would only be posted on the CDBaby site -not on the CD itself.

i think making all the mp3s available here is a must...
I respectfully disagree, but -as I said- we may have no choice and the issue is moot.
The membership vote is probably the most important vote, but I fear only a few will exercise it by purchasing the track of thier choice. I am trying to "invent" some mechanism to have members express thier selection and opinion while contributing a dollar or two to this project.

for KOZZ !! PLEASE HELP: Composition... (in reply to kozz)
Kozz my emails to your address were returned as undeliverable. In any event, I mentioned that I will meet Kevin in Chicago this Thursday when we hope to finalize and upload the music on CDBaby. Do we have a viable layout, do you need any further information or time?

I tried a few times, but am rejected (not a nice experience, really). do you still need the length of each tune?
