RE: Just passed one million views!!! (in reply to JasonMcGuire)
Congratulations Jason!!
The way you play in this particular video captures what is to me, everything that drew me to the flamenco guitar. It is by far my favorite video on youtube and i have viewed it many times.
The sound, your expression, the drive, the writing, the genuine story you tell etc.. comes together to create a mesmerizing experience for the listener.
It makes me proud to play flamenco guitar whenever i watch it and feel happy that this video appears top of the first page when people search flamenco guitar.
I remember the first time i saw it. At that time there were only about 3 pages worth of videos when i searched flamenco guitar. I watched it over and over. My girlfriend at the time was getting mad at me because she wanted the computer. She did buy buy me your CD for my birthday though. Lol! You uploaded at a good time. Now there are about 3 pages of flamenco guitar videos uploaded everyday.
Thank god you have stayed above that "jesse guitar" and the lame rhumba version of romance that he plays. I hate that video and the way he gets views by subbing and spaming everyone on you tube. He is an aussie as well. Stupid Aussie!!! Lol!!I am proud to have never met him. Anyway that's enough about Jesse. That guys success just really gets on my nerves.
Anyway man, You deserve every single view. I really love the fandango from that concert as well. Actually your playing is responsible for many extra golpe marks on my guitar I love your slamming style and always look at your vids if i need some inspiration. I feel like my music is crap when i watch you play though.
Remember, it is now your duty to keep "flamenco guitar by jason" above " jesse guitar plays crappy version of romance" We don't want flamenco guitar to be represented on you tube by that.

Some people feel the way you do about the "Jesse" video about my bulerias..... I get my share of hate mail from self proclaimed experts on flamenco not to mention the likes Professor Diaz. He did send me another love letter last week.
Sorry about those marks on your guitar Kris. Guys with new guitars don't even let me in the room because it seems that by me just standing nearby that guitars go ahead and manifest scratches on themselves without my ever touching them.
I like that Fandangos too... I sort of wish it had received more attention than this bulerias. Oh well, I still find it hilarious that Armik decided to pull both of those pieces from the original version of my CD.
I think that I will offer my original version of "Distancias" as a free download on my free lesson blogspot page.... What do you think?

yes, yes, yes! but can't you just upload the missing songs onto itunes? you deserve something for your work. what's the story with armik pulling stuff out?
lol @ prof. diaz. at least he's not making flash animations...well, actually flash animations would be more amusing than looong paragraph-less essays filled with quotes.

I would love to listen to a pro recording of your bulerias and fandangos. Maybe you should put them on itunes with a link from your you tube videos. Then people can get them for a couple of dollars and you get some cash as well. If it is possible?
You should make a few dollars as i imagine this video will continue to grow in views.
Oh yea! Screw the noobs, I don't see why people get up on their high horse about a monster guitarist with a very original style playing his monster music.
When i sell my guitar and someone looks at the dings and says " what happened here?" I will say that i was watching a Jason Mcguire video and they suddenly appeared.
RE: Just passed one million views!!! (in reply to KMMI77)
congratulations
i agree with Kris, you deserve every succes and more...the force, precision and meningfull melodyes that go somewhere with wich you play its just out of this world..hope u get 6 million more
youl always be fighting the dic*heads who use the "hes not spanish" excuse to dissmiss you but, you can never do anymore that what you are allready doing and have allready done to win with those small amount of "unaware" people...they will always be... i couldnt be prouder to call you an inspiration ahead of many many many spanish players
if you were born in spain and living in spain you probably would have had your own encuentro dvd by now, would have appeared in La Noche Flamenca ... and be one of the top most sorted after accompanist by the big dance companyes
sometimes its unfair but i think its good cause it fuels you even more to be even better and work even harder..and be even more precise and be even more dynamic then the spanish players...but...sooner or later theyl have no choice but to give you the respect you deserve
keep doing what you doing...its just a matter of time before the rest of the world catches on in an even BIGGER way

Congrats Jason This video was one of the first that I saw when I first got into flamenco. I was blown away...
Me too. I listen to this particular track repeatedly and when I finally decided recently to buy a flamenco guitar and take lessons, part of my aim was to be able to play this song - at maybe half-speed and leaving out some really hard bits - within 10 years.
I'd love to see more live videos like this. It has a lot of intensity and "peaks" I would say. I don't listen to any kind of music to "relax" so I love this intensity.

Thanks everyone. I have the mp3 downloads ready.....
Downloading and donating right now. This is great thanks!
PS: At the end of donating I got a message at your website... "There was an internal issue while attempting to process your new subscription. The subscription administrator has been notified and your account will be serviced shortly. We apologize for the delay."
Maybe because the $5 doesn't correspond to any subscription package???

The donation went though Tantrum. Thank you so much.

Congratulations Jason. You deserve every success.
I have said this before but as well as being inspired by your unique musical expression, particularly your intensity and rhythmic drive I am also humbled by your generosity as a teacher.
I have been subscribing to your site for a while and I will take another opportunity here to highly recommend it.
I notice again that you are sharing your hard work for nothing! I have donated, I feel you deserve to be rewarded for your work, yes in ways money cannot buy but also in ways that it can!

LOL,... Not surprised man. Just after one tune the guitar would need new strings, new golpeador, a fret dress and a quick french polish to boot.
Stunning playing Jason. I'm trying to work out if your playing inspires me or makes me want to give up.
Thanks for setting the bar so high!
Now where was I before I watched your video. Oh yeah, Juan Martin Book 1 PAGE 2 lol

RE: Just passed one million views!!! (in reply to JasonMcGuire)
because some people asked me about the youtube account and that it was mine, etc....just to clarify things for everyone and avoid misunderstandings:
yes, this youtube account (Bikhiyal) was originally mine.
i uploaded this video from jason about 4 years ago. i remember, when first time i saw this vid (i don't remember, where i found it, i think a friend send it to me),,,,, i was like ...WTF ! who is this guy ? he is blond, american, and he can play flamenco like that ? wow , people have to see that!
(btw, KMMI7 is right. good old youtube days,,,,at that time youtube was like a virgin )
after that, i bought the "Distancias" CD....and i was like blown away....specially the Taranta !! i recommand the CD to everyone with an open mind.
---
however, back to topic,,,during time, this video got many views, etc.
after jason started his online lessons, i thought that it would be good for him to have direct access to this video to link to his lessons, answer questions etc. and at that time i also didn't have time to do that myself (job, etc.), so i decided to hand this account over to jason.
the other side of the coin is,,,,,,now he also has to deal with people like prof. diaz (haha j/k) and all those other weird youtube people
---
jason was always very generous to me (and other aficionados) and always participated in the flamenco community with an exemplary manner. i truely wish him a lot of success and hope that one day he can manage to come to europe and give concerts also here and hopefully worldwide.
thanks for the missing tracks, i have to transfer some money to my paypal account and will donate as soon as it is filled with some bucks!
btw, recently i made a new account on youtube, the new account username is: FlamencoArash

just heard the Rondena.......
man,,,,,who decided to exclude this piece ? ..oh yes, armik ...... thank you , my iranian friend
don't know what to say.... if such pieces of music have no commercial value...well, then ....f....k the commerce.
its sad, that one have to assimilate to mainstream to make more money.
its same with politics, if you are not mainstream, you are like a lonely warrior.
many thanks to all the billions of people out there for your bad taste and your lack of musical sense
on the other hand, this bulerias was also excluded from the CD, and had a lot of success. hope thats a lesson to all those producers to give "non commercial" pieces a chance
RE: Just passed one million views!!! (in reply to JasonMcGuire)
Well Jason... you absolutely rule, my friend! Your skill is just superb, your music full of imagination and I enjoy that extra element of aggression you put into your playing. You kill with those accents!
My farruca vid also passed the one mil mark, but it's nowhere as deserving as yours. OLE!

Awesome jason, congrats! A testament that true artistry can win over commercialism when it matters. Just like to add, F armik, and F ruben while I am at it.
Edit, I just realized that that silly little video of tico tico by paco I uploaded has 1,749,000 views! WTF? I remember I uploaded that just cuz I wanted to show you guys a good angle of Paco's right hand arpegios.

The lack of judgement on Armik's part still puts a grin on my face. The professor too. and As it should be..... Paco de Lucia.... wins. It really goes to show that for the flamenco community, YouTube was a way to share info about how to better learn, it was a means of sharing knowledge to better each other collectively. We all must have realized on some deep and perhaps unconscious level, that by educating the public about flamenco we could some somehow deal with the misinformation that is so abundant. Ricardo, ToddK and Grisha.... a million thanks to you for devotion as it has inspired a new generation of guitarists out there. I remember there being next to nothing as far as solid info about flamenco. Local teachers kept things guarded for the purposes of "job security".. things are much better these days for people seeking to learn flamenco outside of Spain.

Great news and it's not some stupid wedding with icky posers arsing about in shades, yuk So, no reason why the views don't just keep going up. Flamenco has a "long tail" on the Web.
RE: Just passed one million views!!! (in reply to JasonMcGuire)
Congrats also from my side! Not only a good player but also devoted teacher. I envy those who may study under yours.
YouTube changed drastically in the last 3 years. Most of the time its inspiring, but sometimes you also get frustrated that you will never get "that good". When i started flamenco i could get inspired by very simple things from a book and learning them was easy. Today there are much more sources for inspiration, but the bar is also higher.
