Pali -> Birdseye maple. (Apr. 5 2021 9:22:38)

I do many things and I have fun making guitars among other instruments.
I share with you this guitar made of bird's eye maple with 20 frets .... I hope you like it.

I'm sorry I have reduced the photos and they have lost all quality, can I do something?

I think I have something better, a video that I had with some of my things...

Vary nice. Of course I thought I noticed a number of foot lasts on the shelves and thought you might be a cobbler on the side which is funny cause a few people I know have remarked on my resemblance to a Gapetto like creature when I’m all dust covered in the shop...

I’m using only local sustainable woods in my instruments but I’m jellious of your Birdseye. I’ve been using Birch for my Mallato ( not Blanca not Negra) Flamenco.

I'm a bit of a strange character ... ahahahah, just that ...

I have not played guitar for 30 years, I made this one for a friend, I had to read something about flamenco so that he could hear its sound, I'm a classical musician as I said before, the pickguard was only temporarily fixed and that's how it sounded ...

ernandez R -> RE: Birdseye maple. (Apr. 7 2021 8:35:32)

Not played for 30 years? Not bad at all.

Checked out your utube videos and the boots you make are super cool, vary old school/triditional.

Unfortunatly I only speak English so couldn't understand your distributions but learned a lot watching your hands. Was good T see your shellac video as I am working hard at making my guitars have a better finish.

It's true, I never lie. When I was studying at the music school I played almost 8 hours a day, when I finished my degree ........ I felt lost ..... I don't know how to explain it and I played very well, but ....... I needed to do other things, previously I began to study mechanical engineering and although I did not finish the degree I learned a lot about machines and tools, sharpening, metal ....... again I felt that I wanted to learn more things ....... and thus I have continuously learned many trades but always with the best teachers.

I kept it in its case hoping that the desire to play would return and they have only returned after 30 years. Now I need to play a lot and exercise my fingers because reading sheet music is never forgotten.

Don't worry if you don't understand Spanish, if you want I can make a video in English, I don't care about reading but writing English ...... it's more difficult for me.

You are very observant, hey! .... that is not very interesting here ..... that is another very funny and very difficult facet. I will upload a good photograph for you.

It does not sound good but it's true, it is very easy to do anything for me.

I spent the last 25 years working as a workshop manager and technical teacher specialized in orthopedics, helping people, I worked for a large company that allowed me to have expensive hobbies such as making musical instruments and many other things.[:)][:)]

ahahahahah I knew that! There is not any problem,

let´s see something very funny.....

I practically buy very few tools, perhaps it was not worth it but I love making them by hand, if you like this I will upload the tutorial, they are mini-planes for violins, violas and cellos ...... I think about it, I draw it and I do it ......

Definitely interested in seeing a pictorial on the mini-planes. Also more pictures of your violin family instruments would be pretty cool.

ernandez R -> RE: Birdseye maple. (Apr. 10 2021 7:32:44)

Nice work Amigo

I made up some small planes with hickory bodies and the blades from some steel I had laying around ground and heat treated. Was in the middle of the project when a moose is n the yard crushed my left foot into a bag of bones. I’m still limited how long I can work in the shop but getting better week by week.

Would love to see how you make your metal planes.

Looks great. I love it when people do such different things, especially by hand. That cello would look great just as a blanca [:D]

I make guitars, but my wife asks why don't you care about shoes? I might have to think about that.

Ahahahaha
[8D][8D]

I had thousands of photographs of many things but I have lost them all, I had them stored in phobucket and now I cannot recover them, I am not going to pay anything ......
They have sent me shoes to repair here from all over the world worth thousands of dollars, the last ones were Silvano lattanzi, they cost between 7000-15000 dollars ...
I'm going to find you some nice pictures ..... my wife also loves shoes

Mine too. I am beginning to like you primo [8|]

RobF -> RE: Birdseye maple. (Apr. 10 2021 23:09:07)

Thanks for the pics, Pali, I love the violin family.

I can’t think of any aroma quite as captivating as the smell of the woods found in a guitar making shop; the rosewoods, Cypress, the cedro, mahogany, add to that the smell of the shellac, I love it all. Now, add to this the smell of the leathers used in shoemaking and it must be a heady mix, like one would find in the finest of spice and tea shops.

ernandez R -> RE: Birdseye maple. (Apr. 11 2021 7:14:27)

I should be grateful my partner does not like shoes. I did build her a parlor guitar for Her birthday a couple years ago.

It’s the one in the right, with the hearts of course. Was showing it off and it turned into a commission, then another,...

Wow!!! they are very beautiful and original models, congratulations!!, I know that there are extraordinary people everywhere.

It is true, I have a very nice and large workshop but it is not open to the public.

I have some very funny anecdotes, someone rang the bell, I opened the door and it was a married couple, they stopped because the strong and wonderful smell of the Spanish cypress caught their attention, I invited them to enter and they were speechless ahahahah, that's what It has happened several times.

Other times, when someone comes in they say to me: Wow Manuel, it smells like a stink here, it smells like a dead cat ahahahahahahah, it's the animal tail for the stringed instruments, ahahahaah then they go fast ahahahah.
Normally the smell is wonderful, the cedar, cypress, rosewood, oiled skins are mixed ...... There are people who come just to see me work, they sit and just watch, I don't care.

Bridges today....

I have made bridges of all sizes, 7,8,9,10 mm ..... I am working very well with 9 mm bridges, yeah
And now I'm going to give you some advice and I know that some are going to cry out to heaven.
Stop copying guitars from one manufacturer or another, stop copying Rodriguez, Reyes, Esteso, Contreras ..... You must find your own way, experiment, design, change, you must try everything you can think of, you must find the sound you are looking for, the sound you want, not the sound of Esteso, Rodri .........
Copies are useless, I was never struck by copying anything.
I don't care having a flamenco guitar and the cigar that Fidel Castro used to smoke passes under the strings, as long as it's comfortable and it sounds flamenco, I don't care what others think.
An example, it is very good to interpret the music of others but above all else it is to make and play your own music .....

Look at this guitar, it had a 95 and 100 body, a 9.5 boneless bridge, a 3.5 height at the 12th fret, I would love for you to have tried it ...... that was a grand piano.
The customer is above all.
