Here you could insert whatever you want, colored plates, rosewood ... or nothing.

Wow that’s a lot of backs!

ernandez R -> RE: Birdseye maple. (May 11 2021 15:13:03)

Pali,

Nice work. Smart to have put up all that wood. I am now putting up wood most likly my successor will be able to use. Much of the wood I use, the spruce, birch, and cottonwood was lit up 30 years ago by a man in our village but not for guitars. I'm fortunate to have this wood mostly ready to work. I still have to resaw into usable pieces but in a way I feel I'm more in touch with the wood.

Photo is drum sander a made up from buts and pieces I had laying around. Later I made a simple gravity feed system for it rather then pushing the wood by hand.

Your sander is very good, I like it one day I'll make one.
I think you asked me for some photos of the ornaments, these are in process ...

Pali,

The ornamation in your backs and ribs look vary nice. What are the wood combinations?

Also your bridges look nice. Do you have a target weight for them? How do you select the best piece of wood for a bridge?

HR

Thanks,

The profiles are made of rosewood and yellow and black veneers.
I do not weight the bridges. I always use rosewood and sometimes ebony, I do not select the pieces because they are already selected, so if you can choose the wooden blocks that generate the most confidence in you.

My wood is very old.

Pali -> RE: Birdseye maple. (Jun. 13 2021 20:52:08)

what's up guys?
The work is almost finished, there are some repeated photographs but there were parts without varnishing .....
I have made two in cypress, two in American walnut and two in Indian rosewood.

Nice work, Pali. One of the things I like about your work is you’re not stuck, which is something I respect a lot.

I’m hoping I can visit Spain for a couple of months this fall. When I do, and if you are willing and available, I’d like to visit you in Córdoba for an afternoon, if possible. I’ll be home basing myself in Granada, I expect, so I probably won’t go to Córdoba this trip if you aren’t available because I have a few other places I need to go to, as well. One other person I’m hoping I can visit is Morante, so I’ll be contacting you guys when I have the dates firmed up. Oh, and Piwin, too, if we can swing it.

Thank you.
Ok, of course, it will be a pleasure, let me know before in case there is any problem. No one knows what will happen to covid-19 when the summer passes.

In Granada there are good luthiers, in general many have come out in Andalusia. here in Cordoba too.
I suppose you know, you have to be careful, many buy prefabricated things and assemble them, others spray varnish ... although it is true that prices vary a lot.

If you want something special you have to tell me now to prepare it.

Pali -> RE: Birdseye maple. (Jun. 14 2021 16:51:23)

My workshop is just behind this hotel, one of the most beautiful areas and close to the old town, the views are spectacular ...a very beautiful and flamenco neighborhood called Campo de la Verdad, parking without problems and without paying.

Some pictures....

Hi Pali, I think we have a misunderstanding, and it’s my fault. I should have been more clear but I thought you already realized that I also make guitars, so I would not be visiting to purchase one. I just thought seeing your shop and meeting you could be fun, but it is not necessary if it is inconvenient to you.

The pictures of Córdoba are beautiful, by the way. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

ernandez R -> RE: Birdseye maple. (Jun. 15 2021 0:10:12)

Pali,
Have to say they all look great although I prefer the look of the Cypress ones, the one with the bold back strips the best.

Perhaps some day in the future I too will make my way to Spain to admire your work in person, learn a few things from you, and share a glass of wine in your beautiful city.

Jelious of Rob if he makes it there this fall. I am at risk for Covid with damaged lungs so I'll most likely be waiting another year to travil internationally.

If an angel came up to me with one wish, offering the fingers and Flamenco talant of PDL or the ability to speak Spanish fluently I would choose the mother tounge I never learned... I'm afraid this limitation would make a visit to Spain prablamatic.

HR

Almost forgot, if I made such a trip I would have you fit me for a pair of your stunning boots! Guitars I can build but boots "por nada"

hahahahaha, I didn't know, don't worry, I'm just a good craftsman who does a lot of things. I have a large and very nice workshop, but it is not open to the public, I only attend friends and acquaintances who like the world of classical and flamenco guitar, as well as violinist musicians.

During this last year and a half I have not allowed anyone to enter the workshop due to the covid-19 epidemic, I have gone to collect the instruments to repair and only by appointment I have allowed people I know to enter here.

Now it seems that we are going in the right direction, but until autumn arrives we will not know if we will get better or if deaths and infections will increase. Of my music group, "rondaya", two companions have died, grandparents very dear to the damn disease, so this is not a joke, you get infected and it may not affect you much, it may affect you a lot and they have to tube and you may also die ........

Anyway, send me a message when you know the dates you are going to travel, I don't care if you are a builder, hobbyist or professional, I don't care.

Pali,

Jelious of Rob si llega allí este otoño.

Hernandez please, take care of yourself.
I am thinking that ......... maybe it would be better to do a summer course on construction and also on Spanish language hahahahahahahaha I was not just kidding around a bit.

As I have told my colleague in the previous message, I am just a good craftsman, I have never copied anyone and I only follow my instincts, I make instruments because it amuses me a lot and because I have waited many years for this moment to come, I do not worry if I sell one or four or if I don't sell any, I don't need it because I don't make a living from it.

Don't worry about beer and wine, there is a lot of good here and I invite you.
Don't worry about the language either, I chatter English and you're not going to get bored and if you play flamenco on top of that, you won't even need to speak hahahahaha.

When I finish these guitars, I estimate that in about two weeks they will be finished, I will record a video for you testing each and every one of the guitars and I will try to speak in English so that you do not have translation problems.

Do not forget that I above all and although many years have passed I am and I feel a musician.

Hi Pali, yes, the pandemic sure has fundamentally changed everything about our lives, all over the world, and will probably continue to do so for some time yet, so no plans can be certain for anyone at this time. At any rate, it was just a suggestion, no big deal, but I’ll send you a message once I know what’s happening. :)

Robf be careful and take extreme precautions when you come to Spain.
The government is not telling the truth, they are a bunch of useless and incompetent people. The infections are not controlled, people continue to die and hospital admissions do not stop increasing. The government is disguising the figures so that people travel to Spain, so that the Spaniards themselves move and consume because they have destroyed the economy.

They are offering an image of beaches, bars and sun that does not correspond to reality.

Avoid groups, closed spaces and do not leave the mask.
I will inform you as the date of your trip approaches, here in Andalusia the precautionary measures have not been modified, with many municipalities closed and still confined due to the high incidence.

Manuel.

RobF -> RE: Birdseye maple. (Jun. 16 2021 11:00:18)

Thanks Manuel. Yeah, it’s not that much different here. I get regular updates on the local situation by my friends in Granada, but they don’t necessarily have their fingers on the pulse of what is going in elsewhere. I watch some YouTube news update blogs, too, which also helps.

At any rate, I won’t go until it seems stable enough that I can book the flights far enough in advance to be able to afford it and also trust that they won’t get cancelled at the last minute. With the constant threat of new variants of the virus showing up and causing problems, it’s so difficult to make any plans.

I really want to get there, though, as I am over a year late on fulfilling some commitments and also I really miss my friends. A lot.

Cervantes -> RE: Birdseye maple. (Jun. 20 2021 17:13:18)

WOW amazing talent and products.

Pali -> RE: Birdseye maple. (Jul. 1 2021 17:38:44)

I had a lot of fun this morning, I have recorded a small video to share with you, these are some of the guitars that you have seen here.
My English is not very good, I would say very bad hahahahaha but I have tried although I think it does not matter, the sound of the guitars and being able to have fun for a while ...

Later I will prepare something more precise to play, right now it is very difficult because I have to finish the rest of the guitars that I will also upload.

If you do not understand something I will be happy to clarify it, I hope you like them and if you do not like them ...... nothing happens because there are tastes for everything.....

Take care.
Manuel.

Escribano -> RE: Birdseye maple. (Jul. 1 2021 21:21:48)

I recognise the sound of a bright, new blanca with ringing strings and the soleá. I can almost smell it, from my time in Andalucía. ¡Me gusta mucho!

Thanks Pali, it is for sure fun. Also, your English is not bad, I would say very good :)

Keep posting this stuff if you like, it’s very enjoyable to see and to hear your guitars.[sm=Smiley Guitar.gif]

ernandez R -> RE: Birdseye maple. (Jul. 2 2021 6:06:15)

Wow, all three sound great but the second one you played had a little magic I liked, hard to tell as I was only able to listen on my phone. Some time tomorrow I will plug it into my stereo. I know I mentiond up thread how I liked the looks of the one Blanca with the wider back strips, the one you played first?

You should play a more please. Don't laugh but I enjoy listening to mortals play well. I watch the left but mostly the right hand and find I learn somthing almost every time as everyone plays just a little different.

Thank you for sharing.

Olé!

HR

Schieper -> RE: Birdseye maple. (Jul. 2 2021 12:18:55)

A deep bow in resepct. The guitars you build look and sound great.. it never stops to amaze me how some people can mold a three-trunk into such a wonder... bravo

Pali -> RE: Birdseye maple. (Jul. 2 2021 20:55:39)

Thanks guys,

I'll try to play something else next time.
There are still four guitars missing, when I finish them I will upload it to you with another video and so you can see them live.

Pali -> RE: Birdseye maple. (Jul. 9 2021 17:35:23)

There are four guitars left that I posted previously and I have finished one of them .......... What do you think if we try this guitar? Does anyone want to touch her?
No volunteers? .............
Ok ....... which is an American walnut guitar and it is useless for flamenco .......... do I play it?

I'm kidding a little bit huh !! don't get serious .....[sm=Smiley Guitar.gif]
