Morante -> RE: Morao strikes again (Apr. 22 2014 15:27:51)

mmmmmm. Viva Morao padre.

Leñador -> RE: Morao strikes again (Apr. 22 2014 15:32:13)

Ridiculous........

Nahuel03 -> RE: Morao strikes again (Apr. 22 2014 15:37:07)

Call me stupid, but never liked his toque.

I love Moraito and his father, but not this guy.

athrane77 -> RE: Morao strikes again (Apr. 22 2014 15:45:54)

Ok, "stupid".

Just kidding, nobody should be called stupid for not liking something. But since you couldn't help but express your opinion on the matter, let me just say, in my experience, those who develop more knowledge adjust their tastes accordingly over time. Also, I am sure you mean Moraito and HIS UNCLE. [8|]

Studid you are NOT. All of this family are good, but Moraito is the best and the most Flamenco.

His father played very well, but the uncle better and more famous. I always thought he was too busy and Moraito surpassed him. "Que opinas tu?"

Not sure how anyone could describe his Uncle as anything less than "flamenquisimo". To be honest, I got a little burnt on the same accompaniment for SO many singers (all those cante albums throughout the 90's into first decade of 2000) that I look back to Manuel Morao's work as "refreshing" in a way despite it's age. To the point, I think it a shame that so many look at Moraito and his imitators as the epitome of JEREZ toque, when it is so different from others including his Uncle, Parrilla, Cepero etc....all equally jerezano. Now we have diego here doing some cool things such as reintroduce the fast siguiriyas and such, and people think it is "weird" cuz it's not like his dad did it.

Arash -> RE: Morao strikes again (Apr. 22 2014 16:07:43)

I was writing something out of a sudden burst of anger, but while typing, deleted it and replaced it with this ..

Yeah, its all good, everyone is free to like/prefer/dislike whatever he wants and so on ...

mezzo -> RE: Morao strikes again (Apr. 22 2014 16:15:38)

too much contras kill the Contra

....right....so play everything on the beat and see how that goes. [8|]

Let me some couples of years of hard practice, before I could achieve it [8D]
At least what he plays from 0'47 to 0'50 and from 1'33 to 1'42 are trad. solea cliché so I have a ref. on how they sound on beat. Not a bad start [:)] (10%)

I don't know if we talk about the same cool thing, but when I listened in a concert his seguiriyas in some other than por medio tonality which was played rather fast, I think the only thing that sounded like seguiriyas in it was that he said it was seguiriyas before playing it. However it doesn't mean it was bad. Maybe too revolutionary for me... By the way, when talking about traditional tonalities, does anyone play tarantas in other than F# tonality?

I think diego is a great guy and currently maybe the most popular guitarist in Jerez and he really brings some new stuff to Jerez style of playing, just like his dad.

bursche -> RE: Morao strikes again (Apr. 22 2014 19:11:45)

uberbadass! some sonikete going on

kudo -> RE: Morao strikes again (Apr. 23 2014 5:11:40)

the way i see diego, is a mix of moraito and paco de lucia.

Arash -> RE: Morao strikes again (Apr. 23 2014 9:55:05)

The way I see Diego is that he is Diego.

He is not an inferior copy of his uncle, padre , grandpa and great-grandmother ..... and also not a simple a mix of others like a cocktail

He has a unique "Diego" style (of course hugely influenced by Moraito, Paco, etc.) and if you guys can't hear it, then you either simply stood still 50 years ago like an old grumpy stubborn conservative fart and can't appreciate anything beyond your level of guitar understanding and generally simply don't like young "Hijos" because they remind you that your 3 chord "Aire and Soniquette excuse" technique sucks ,,,, or you are simply quite new to flamenco and will probably appreciate it and "get it" once you listened to lot of flamenco in your journey.

But meanwhile ..... here is "Padre" for you .....

well, guess I couldn't hold back this time, sorry

For cante yes (Minera or Granaina keyes mainly). For solo guitar, only Tomatito has a special example with a unique tuning (that I know of).

I was gonna put that also Alfredo Lagos has used Eb/D# for Tarantas, but I checked and it is listed as "Malagueña del Mellizo ("por Taranta")" - accompanying Antonio Reyes

rojarosguitar -> RE: Morao strikes again (Apr. 23 2014 15:32:36)

I'm not going to argue about right or wrong in flamenco, because I don't have the knowledge for that.
All I can say is that apart from the issue of whether this music can be put in some box of known denomination I found this video of Diego del Morao musically very appealing and inspiring and on a very high level in terms of guitar playing ... It's a pitty that the sound quality is so poor.
Just personal opinion...

This kind of insulting commentary you can get away with on the internet, though it does nothing to preserve the integrity of this fórum. Speak in this manner in real life and you might end up spitting teeth, especially if you were talking to me. And you don´t even know who you are talking to. Get a life, carajito.

i think Diego is fantastic...his sense of rhythm, timing and especially his left hand precision is probably the best among contemporary guitarists...he has created his own style that is now being copied...even if you don't like the music, you have to appreciate his talents...btw when he accompanies on stage (which he prefers to solo playing), he uses no more than 3 chords and uses his simplest falsetas...he is one who has lots of respect for traditional toque...

beno -> RE: Morao strikes again (Apr. 23 2014 17:51:39)

[:D] This gonna be a long thread again

I don't like Diego's playin' as well, at the same time I love some new generation' hijo toque...

el carbonero -> RE: Morao strikes again (Apr. 23 2014 18:45:53)

I like very much this video , incredible toque .

Dont forget , the time passed ,the form of toque is different but, Diego always play with the raices , i listen him like that.

Now no one can beat Diego except Manuel Parrilla .

Doitsujin -> RE: Morao strikes again (Apr. 23 2014 19:43:13)

well well well.... i still think most of you guys (with a few exceptions) are all just a bunch of damn pokemon,.... dry like 1bio years long dried monkey testicles in the light of Bellatrix.. uhu.hadtocutittotheessenceofthisposthehhehehe:P

Diego is the "best" at the moment, unfortunately my favourite Gerardo remains quiet.... Diego has his fathers swing and fantastic compositions.
