Escribano -> Ron's Boot Camp - Andalucía 2013 (Sep. 8 2012 18:31:33)

I am thinking about organising a one week Foroflamenco boot camp next year, in memory of Ron. I have a house in a beautiful valley about 20 mins. from Granada city and access to some great rental villas. Target dates are early Spring 2013 (March, April).

This is not my house but is available, amongst others.

Some ideas:

- A good teacher from Granada to come each day
- Perhaps a masterclass from Emilio Maya
- Instructional talks and some hands-on from a luthier
- Minibus trips to Granada for the evening
- Invited guest talks
- Dance classes
- Cante classes
- Juergas
- Barbeques, beer, wine, local produce.
- A finale performance at a local venue.
- Optional accomodation for family nearby.

It is only a thought at the moment, but I would like to gauge your interest before I make enquiries and put together some indicative costs.

This is good. We have some definite interest and if it happens, I can promise you a great time. Plenty of caminos, lemon, orange and olive orchards to get you in the letra mood. In fact, it may be during the orange harvest and many other trees will be in bloom. A great time to visit - not too hot, cool evenings and a blue sky to die for.

Keep the votes coming, one way or the other.

Munin -> RE: Ron's Boot Camp - Andalucía 2013 (Sep. 9 2012 9:31:52)

Sounds great. I'd be up for it. Price doesn't really matter (well within reasonable boundaries). But I feel like a late Summer date or so would allow more people to come (holidays and all)? Not sure.

Edit: Also my experience from things like this is that one week usually turns out to feel really short because 2 days are already basically gone due to arrival/departure, etc. Maybe 10 days would be a good balance.

I have added that as an option, but prices and heat will be much higher.

Good point, I have added that too, for the long-haulers.

Louis_B -> RE: Ron's Boot Camp - Andalucía 2013 (Sep. 9 2012 10:34:18)

I would definitely be interested either for the last week in March or the first week in April - school holidays[:)]

Summer holidays would be OK too

Escribano -> RE: Ron's Boot Camp - Andalucía 2013 (Sep. 9 2012 10:42:23)

Thanks Louis. We'll need to get this confirmed over the next couple of months, so you can get a good deal on flights. Watch this space.

Count me in!!

KMMI77 -> RE: Ron's Boot Camp - Andalucía 2013 (Sep. 9 2012 11:44:54)

Something like this would be so much fun. Not just for flamenco, but hanging out, meeting and having a laugh with everyone would be a great experience.

But Australia is just to far away, It would be out of my budget[:(]

Start saving! You might be surprised if you shop around for flights to London and book a cheap flight to Malaga in advance, where you can pick up a hire car or get the bus to Granada.

Florian -> RE: Ron's Boot Camp - Andalucía 2013 (Sep. 9 2012 13:16:35)

Leñador -> RE: Ron's Boot Camp - Andalucía 2013 (Sep. 9 2012 16:09:47)

That would be incredible! I vote late summer too, I need time to financially recover from the trip in about to take [:D]

Doitsujin -> RE: Ron's Boot Camp - Andalucía 2013 (Sep. 9 2012 18:14:30)

I will either have a job...and I don´t know yet where .. could be very much everywhere in the world... or I´m unemployed. For the latter one, I save some money for the trip to the boot camp. :-|

Richard Jernigan -> RE: Ron's Boot Camp - Andalucía 2013 (Sep. 10 2012 3:46:46)

...the last week in March is Semana Santa, with all that implies for tourism...

I don't know about the others, but the last week of March is the only one I could make for those target dates. Otherwise, July-August...

chester -> RE: Ron's Boot Camp - Andalucía 2013 (Sep. 10 2012 22:58:57)

Man, this looks and sounds amazing. I'll try to sell this to my wife - wish me luck...

EDIT - Sold! Preferably mid-march (so I can continue to Israel and visit my family for Passover). I'd be coming with my wife and a 2-year-old. Can you keep me informed regarding lodging options?

I'm getting excited about the possibility of finally making it to Spain!

dararith -> RE: Ron's Boot Camp - Andalucía 2013 (Sep. 11 2012 0:36:23)

I'd be more than likely be able to make it out, especially given the 1 year advanced date. Please keep me up to date with the info. [:D]

Ricardo -> RE: Ron's Boot Camp - Andalucía 2013 (Sep. 11 2012 17:51:54)

Just a thought. Several foro members I have met at Gerardo's curso in Sanlucar....it's always the 3rd week of july, offset by Manolo Sanlucar's curso part of the Cordoba guitar festival going on the week before. Many students try to hit both and do some cante festivals around that time too. Might be a good idea then to shoot for LAST week of july so some folks already traveling at that time can attempt to make both or all of it in one swoop.

Ricardo

FullMetalGuitarist -> RE: Ron's Boot Camp - Andalucía 2013 (Sep. 12 2012 16:04:56)

I'd really like to take part . . . though I can't be sure till we'll calculate all the expanses cause I'm a poor student ;)

Escribano -> RE: Ron's Boot Camp - Andalucía 2013 (Sep. 13 2012 8:05:10)

Great, it looks like we have enough people interested for me to start looking at the options and pricing it up. We may have enough to run a couple of events next year to fit with people's preferences. Spring and then later in the Summer. I prefer the Spring for prices but mainly because it gets so damn hot in late July but I will look for air-con in the villas.

Give me a couple of weeks to research this and get back to you with an outline.

I was thinking the same, Ricardo. I'll roughly price up the options for March and late July.

mottallica -> RE: Ron's Boot Camp - Andalucía 2013 (Sep. 14 2012 14:10:11)

sounds awesome - i really hate being poor and not european at times like this ! [:D]
no way i could afford it.

- not european as in it is much more expensive to me to get to spain then europeans

Escribano -> Ron's Boot Camp - Andalucía 2013 Update (Sep. 17 2012 16:56:08)

I have done some costings for March 2013 and this is where we are so far, as an example.

1. 7 nights (Saturday/Sunday arrivals, depart following Sunday)
2. Airport pick-up and drop-off (Malaga and Granada airports)
3. Accommodation - based on sharing rooms in luxury villa(s). Extra for own room.
4. Food (breakfast, light lunch, snacks). Breakfast will be cooked for us. We'll pitch in to prep supper, or help ourselves.
5. Laundry.
6. Beer/Wine/Juice.
7. Barbeque/Paella juerga.
8. Guitar classes - from our very own Ricardo (another guitarist to be recruited).
9. Evening transport into Granada.

You just bring your guitar (there may also be at least one house guitar available).

I am exploring some more activities to make this a very special event, but I wanted to gauge your reactions to the price.

This assumes that we get 20 people signed up. Any less and we may have to cut back on the package.

Including the other activities that are yet to be confirmed, we are in the ballpark of EUR 480 (£390 GBP, $640 USD) That is an estimate.

Let me know what you think. Whether it is worth continuing with the planning.

Note: I'll also price up 10 days.

July pricing for 7 and 10 nights to follow.

Simon,

Although I am unsure of my schedule in March 2013 and cannot commit at this juncture, I can say that the cost is an amazing bargain for one week, including everything you mentioned. If cost alone were the question, rather than scheduling in my case, I would sign on immediately.

Cheers,

Bill

Thanks Bill. I am trying to keep costs down, whilst ensuring a very special event but these are only indicative until the itinerary is confirmed. Having said that, you would have to go a long way to get an equivalent deal with the quality of teaching, accommodation, service and catering I am planning.

I may help cooking breakfast, though. I love cooking breakfast and you really need to try my desayuno alpajarreño [8|]

Chester, I will refer you to our agent down there, so you can find a really nice place for you and the family and price it without accommodation and food on the booking form. Bring your own packed lunch [8|]
