I'm so sorry for AC's loss, Ron is always a cool and composed person. Ready to call out any bulls--t put forward by members. But always diplomatic and helpful.

His presence would be missed greatly on the forum.

estebanana -> RE: R.I.P Ron Mitchell (Ron.M) (Aug. 28 2012 2:23:25)

A. C. Mitchell,

I am so sorry about your papa, I hope you have support around you. Take care of yourself.

Ron and I had a long running email conversation for the last two years and I have to say that guy had substance and grace. I will miss the heck out of him. Very shocking to hear this and this is an unfortunate loss for the foro. He and I actually wrote about you and he told me how you are the reason loved to live. I had some notion that he and I would be able to connect in person someday, I'm really bummed out that won't happen. I'm happy to have spent that time conversing with him, I'm going to miss that connection.

Three cheers for Mr. Ron, no a thousand.

Rest in peace, Brother... Thanks for all the kind words and wealth of "aire" you brought to us here.. We'll play one day in the future. God speed to your friends and family!

Cheers, Errol

avimuno -> RE: R.I.P Ron Mitchell (Ron.M) (Aug. 28 2012 3:12:02)

Such a sad news!! [:(]
My sincere condolences to you and your family... although I never got to meet him in person, I, like many here, really appreciated his advice, experience and wit on this forum... he will be missed!

Florian -> RE: R.I.P Ron Mitchell (Ron.M) (Aug. 28 2012 3:16:30)

OMG I am speechless..i need to compose myself to make a nice goodbye post but i am just shocked and speechless atm

we had become quite good friends in the last 2 years and gave eatchoter moral support through tough situations and talked about about our life's openly and candidly in private..

i dont feel like i lost a great forum member but a very close friend who i felt comfortable confiding in about everything, i loved the guy and all he was..he made me lough, he encouraged me and at times he even told me to get off my high horse and practice..

My deepest sympathy and condolences to you AC, he loved you dearly and always spoke so proud of you ..x

bursche -> RE: R.I.P Ron Mitchell (Ron.M) (Aug. 28 2012 3:16:59)

I find it hard to believe you're gone, Ron.
You've been El Papá del Foro for me, always being one of the first to
share your thoughts about the very first music I recorded and shared here.
I found you had such a great ability to encourage people not to stop learning.
This place here meant a great deal to me especially in the beginning - I was always waiting for the Scottish flag to show up.

So only once in all the time I've been here I'll say:

cheers, Ron!

Ricardo -> RE: R.I.P Ron Mitchell (Ron.M) (Aug. 28 2012 3:29:44)

Wow, this sucks. I made a point to meet face to face as many foro members I could when traveling. And after Doit visited me this christmas I was really hopeful that either Ron would consider a visit or at least we could meet face to face one day. He is one I really always wanted to meet face to face. THis is very upsetting to me.

I remember thinking Ron was a very young guy based on his writing on flamenco-teacher forum which seemed youthful and enthusiastic. Later I heard his audio and was so impressed by his mature and "flamenco" sound and compas. I remember the time he was inspired to learn the importance of playing smack on the metronome click as per a lesson he had, and it ended up being what felt like the entire FT forum vs me championing his "new discovery". Good times. Of course his humour....and the time I suggested that people on FT could be famous and posting anonymously, and he got such a kick out of the idea I thought he could be Sean Connery (since he was posting from Scotland). Man I am gonna miss him.

This will be for me the first "virtual" friend whose loss has brought me to tears.

Ricardo

PS...just a thought....his personality comes out so strong in his posts and audios and vids, it wouldn't be too hard for someone to make a page with all his stuff on it, I would think? So he could be immortalized in a way for anyone to get to know him the way we do I think, rather than have to use the seach functions.

yes i was thinking that too, we need something very special, have our own good bye...he was the Foro...he should always remain part of it..he will never ever be forgotten here

R.I.P Ron ...so sorry for your loss

I still can't believe this. Yes there should be a special foro event for Ron.

Whenever I see this I'll think of him.

Stunning and sad news! I was also encouraged by his uploaded videos. They seemed easy to play but had such a sound and feeling that I could never get. We could tell he was a man of passion and love. When he shared his pain with us recently, I think most of us felt some of it along with him. It was difficult to see him that way when we had seen him so happy. I am a nobody here and feel like I knew him. I feel a loss and can't imagine what it's like for you...

I know your dad liked listening to bbc radio.[8D]

I found this thread by your father where he links some of his favorite flamenco.

Ruphus -> RE: R.I.P Ron Mitchell (Ron.M) (Aug. 28 2012 10:08:03)

I´m fighting tears in disbelieve.

The internet is being considered a virtual place that can´t come close to real life experiences. However, it has always been my conviction that written conversation has its merrits, as one can sort his thoughts; and that over time you can actually sense a person between the lines. Not seldomly better even than live.

This world to me appears badly upside-down in regard of reason and ethics, and consequent critiques tend to stir up dust with a fraction of people who don´t like to hear of the destructive ugly out there. Thus, as a new member I was just entangled in a little forum battle when Ron showed up to drop one of his typical jokes. Unaware I then fired at him only to figure soon that he was actually all but superficial.
Actually, his democratic nature had him follow even unheard statements and give them the chance of proove. Always, prepared to gather new links.

He stands for a down to earth personality with a lot of empathy and a strong sense for justice. And I assume that his humor just helped him to cope with all the injust and devastation inflicted by the international game of greed, corruption and inhumanity that effects us all and our sociology / quality of social life.

Very obviously he wasn´t of todays average, emotionally uneducated, indifferent and cynical type, and in need of his close surrounding to shoulder the insights on todays kingdoms. Only consequently, he would point to us every other time press articles on certifying and plundering of the little people.

His passing to me makes for another clue that things are going basically wrong on this planets status quo, on which noble spirits shatter whilst the unscrupulous prosper.

As posted once, I would had loved to meet up one day and discuss nights through with a couple of drinks. Certainly, it would have been some very entertaining, thoughtful and in the same time amusing experience.

Just as certainly, everyone who knew him is now pondering: "Why; why must things be this way?"
They mustn´t.
He felt that; hence couldn´t just shrug away the world´s insanity in the way billions of fellow people do.

Zeitgeist may say it´s just virtuality, but actually here is the loss of a hearty friend. And I feel tears running.

This is really sad news. I always enjoyed Ron's posts - his was the voice of decency and reason. Plus he seemed to have a limitless selection of interesting and amusing personal anecdotes about flamenco. He will be greatly missed.

Samarto -> RE: R.I.P Ron Mitchell (Ron.M) (Aug. 28 2012 11:24:38)

Very sorry to hear this. He was much to young. I know he once said he didn't play compositions, just a bunch of disconnected stuff. Maybe his stuff will now become compositions if any recording exist.

Very sad, indeed. My condolences for the loss of your father, AC. He will for sure be missed here at the Foro. As many have already said, he just had a way of expressing himself that was very unique and entertaining.

All the best to you and yours in this difficult time.

I have been missing from the Foro for quite a while and to hear this news is greatly saddening. Ron was such an important part of the Foro to me.

I downloaded his siguiriyas years ago and have always listened to it continually over the years.

For one upload that I posted, he told me that he thought I sounded like a chain-smoking gypsy from the 60's. There is no greater compliment and especially coming from Ron.

He will be dearly missed.

Here is his siguiriyas.

He was a great one.

Yes, and one of his most enduring memories was meeting Paco Peña at his flat in London for a chat.

Haha Ron was a very funny guy. The 1st thing I uploaded a few years ago was a bit odd and Ron had this to say:

John,
I thought that was great myself!
(Just don't try to play stuff like that if accompanying Capullo de Jerez, or he'll pour lighter fluid over you and set you on fire.)

I never forgot that comment and have told it to my teachers in Algeciras who thought it was hilarious. I think he had the Andaluz sense of humour for sure.

changue -> RE: R.I.P Ron Mitchell (Ron.M) (Aug. 28 2012 12:15:23)

Very sorry indeed to hear this news. Your dad's personality came across in all the many contributions he made to this forum.

Very best wishes

Changue
