can anyone tell me how to make a pic small enough to upload for profile? i cropped it down from 300kb to about 150kb but can't make it any smaller or it will disappear!

Crop the pic to show what you want, post it/link to it in the Off-topic section, and I, or someone else will resize it for you.

Photoshop has a nice bit where you can "save for the web" and tinker with the compression to make it the right file size.

Or, if you have trouble uploading, you can email it to me.

Part of the problem is also file size.
Crop an image, resize the image dimensions to 145x145 pixels and then you may still have to adjust the compression (1-10 or low, med, or high). The image quality/compression settings are usually found when you "save as," they usually have the quality option in the save as dialog, but sometimes you might have to use the options button in the dialogue to find them (depending on your app of choice).

A very good FREE image editing app for Windows is Paint.NET

Photoshop has nice options for choosing compression, whether using save fore web, or image ready (same thing, really). So, if you're having trouble, getting the file size down, without the pic looking pixellated or showing artefacts, my offer still stands.
I'm no pro, but I got the software.

I'll leave the offer open to any forum member.

P.D.
I've never been sure about this uncle Bob guy. He's the pervy uncle, right?

Instead oh buying/downloading Photoshop you can just use Sumo Paint. It does a lot of what Photoshop does.

Is anyone else having trouble uploading avatars using firefox? Every time I try to upload the avatar it says the file is to large even though it is 28kb. I even resized the file to 1kb which didn't work either. I just tried uploading using internet explorer and that worked fine.

A lot of forums have an 'introduce yourself' thread on the top of the general section. We had that for a while, but I think it got lost in the ff.com/ff.net chaos. I think it would be nice to pick it up again.

doh, it still hasn't worked.

i got it down to 145 x 140 pixels and 21.5 kb, and when i uploaded it said it uploaded successfully, so where is it? does it get checked by admin to make sure it's not pron or something?

it's a funny pic btw.... of a really famous top flamenco guitarist, obviously!

yeah, i never heard that one before!

nor Sean Bean, or Viggo Mortensen or any of those other guys that i get told i look like.... i don't look like any of them.... they look like me!

anyway, it was hot sunny day at a festie in july and when we went in the marquee to do our slot i took off my shades and sat down on the stage right in front of this big - off searchlight/spotlight thing so i put them straight back on

well, i did say the pic was gonna be a laff (it's from about 2001 btw, i've aged considerably since then, lost all my hair, grown a beard, that kind of thing)
