Newbie saying HELLO!

hi everybody,

Just thought i would post up a BIG HELLO to you all.

to give you a bit of background info,i have been interested in learning flamenco for the past couple of years but have never really found the time for practice or the commitment needed. but a couple of months ago a had the oppotunity to purchase a VERY NICE Alhambra Flamenco Guitar at a very discounted price! so bit the bullet and bought it! i have been learning flamenco for a couple of months now, mainly from Graf Martinez's Flamenco Guitar Method book (vol1) and i have also bought Aaron Gilmartins DVD. My cousin also plays and has been for 15 years or so. i have a basic knowledge of guitar playing from when i was younger but stopped when i started secondary school.

i will openly admit that its harder than i thought to begin with, tremillos, rasgeuo's, playing apoyando, etc my fingers and thumb have taken a right beating!

well there you go, get ready for lots of questions to come in the near future and i look forward to talking to you all soon

Alex

Hello Alex

Welcome to the foro!

When you're just starting out I would recommend taking a few personal lessons from a flamenco guitarist. Even though you can get all the information on the different techniques from DVDs, books and this foro, it will save you a lot of time and effort to have someones trained eyes and ears check your hand positions, finger angles, sitting position, basic techniques etc. it's worth it, if you can find a decent teacher in your area.. the idea is to avoid having to unlearn bad habits later.

Cheers!

Hi Alex

Welcome to the forum!

Nice people here!
flamenco players are a little bit crazy, concealed poets with a sense of melancholy and they learn to be patient like sailors, the journey is very long...
