Hey from New Member
Alright guys,
just signed up and thought I'd say hey. I'm relatively new to playing flamenco style, but not to guitar playing in general.
I'll save any questions until I've had a better look round and a bit of a search, but any beginner advice would be welcome - I'm currently working through the Graf-martinez method books. For future reference, do technique questions go in this forum or in another?
impatience has the better of me, so I will ask a few quick questions while I'm here.
-Can anyone recommend any good reading re: more cultural aspects of flamenco rather than just playing styles - things like song forms, some more information about compas and some historical notes would be interesting to get hold of. I realise some of these things are discussed in the second Graf-Martinez book, but any other suggestions would be great.
-Does 'proper' flamenco music (when transcribed) give any notes about what left hand techniques to use for different rhythmic groups, or is it solely down to interpretation? I use 'proper' to refer to notation that is not in a tuition book, which most likely will include notes like this.
I think that's it for now - I will continue to search and browse. Fingers crossed I should have a new guitar arriving in the next couple of days, so some intense practice will be needed to justify it!
Edit - I should probably say hola! to any UK members, and any intermusic/MusicRadar louts if you're about just incase.
