Another flamenco build in progess (r...

Some of you may remember my thread a while back where I inquired about Barbarossa guitars. Well in the end, I took TANúñez's advice and went with my gut instincts, and have commissioned Mr. Blilie to build me a flamenco. He's sent a number of pics of the progress so far, and I wanted to post just a few of them as a preview; I'll put the entire photo set online when the guitar is completed.

Partial assembly. I like how he stamps the neck block and signs the underside of the soundboard.

I'm told that the guitar will be physically complete in 2 months or so, but the shellac finishing will take considerably longer. I've always considered myself a patient person but damn, I'm having a hard time waiting it out for this guitar to show up on my doorstep!

Good for you Kovachian. I REALLY hope you like it because it looks like I'll get the blame if you don't I'm sure you will though.

Is this built in the style of Barbero? The bracing pattern resembles a Barbero.

I remember and I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing the guitar.

Best of luck to you on this purchase!

Good luck.

Is it a Barbero (sabicas) copy?

Haha no I will not blame you TANúñez, if I'm unhappy for whatever reason I'll have no one to blame but myself. There'll be no scapegoats here!

It is in fact based on a '51 Barbero design. There's going to be some deviations though, including a cutaway, 650mm scale and a 52 mm nut but other than that, the bracing and everything else will be according to the plan.

That's a really nice bearclaw top. If you think it looks nice now, wait until after the finish has been applied. All the details will just jump out.
