Some interesting people turned up re...

First of all, I sold some equipment recently, and the guy who bought it has worked with Paco's sax player. He's a jazz bassist from a local college and he spent some time hanging out in Spain playing with a bunch of great musicians.

Meanwhile, I managed to find to local flamenco guitar teacher (hurrah!) who has a degree in flamenco performance from the same college. This intrigued me, and I can imagine your average gitano laughing at the idea of a flamenco degree. It turns out that this college pays its students big fat bursaries to go and study with well known artists in their chosen field. This teacher spent a chunk of his course studying under Juan Martin, and a friend of the bassist above spent time with Rafael in Oxford.
What a great course, eh? Lucky buggers! Anyhow, I've exchanged emails with this teacher and hope to start lessons soon. Will report back in due course...

Finally, last but not least, a small UK Foro Flamenco meet up... A newcomer to the forum (Hi Richard) turned up at one of my gigs last week. He forced his way through a packed audience to say hello (I think there was maybe three tables in the restaurant actually booked..)

All in all a pretty good flamenco few days for this part of the world.

Hey, who need Jerez, eh?

Jon

yo Jon,
Interesting posting that because it got me thinking. Have any of you English foro puppies ever met? Would there be any interest in arranging such a meeting so that we could see how ugly we all are?
