yasmin levy - ladino/jewish singer
hey there - my friend, who's in a jewish a capella group on campus, just showed me this: http://www.myspace.com/yasminlevy yasmin levy, an israeli singer singing in ladino, a sort of hybrid jewish-spanish language. it's got a definite flamenco influence (there's even a very nice solea on her myspace), as well as, of course, israeli influences. it highlights the relationship these cultures have had over the centuries and sounds pretty decent. very nice voice, kind of estrella morente-esque, i think. has anyone else heard of her? what's the general consensus?
