To those who were at the Curso Flame...

...pics and videos as well as your experiences please!

It was better than words can describe. Anybody who ever gets the chance should go. I'll definitely be going again.

One of many highlights for me was seeing Arcángel, Jose Merce accompanied by Moraíto and Manolo Sanlucar live (not at the course, it was a seperate concert, that timing was really great). We were at the same bar afterwards and some of us were lucky enough to get pics with Manolo Sanlucar (Henry must send me ours!).

Ricardo was even more lucky after many of us had already gone to bed, hopefully he'll write a bit about it...

Up at 9:30 AM, 10-12 group with Gerardo, 12-19 practise/eat/goof off, 19-20 review with Tino, 22-24 fiesta with Gerardo and group, 24-open end in the bar with some of the coolest musicians I've ever met (open end like 4 or 5 ... or 6 or 7)

Next day up at 9:30 AM....

I didn't do siesta a single day so by the time Saturday came around my body was happy to go home

This year I'll be practising a lot of bulerias so I can maybe sit in with the group next year.

yeah I was thinking that - specially for guys like you half way round the world Flo. I was wondering if we'd ever get together. But no it wouldn't be weird, it would be brill!!

But of course as I've just said in another thread that I'm going to give up and sell my guitar on ebay, I'd just be coming along to be sociable....

My story is very long and involved. Let me get my hands on the photos and vids my friend took, so I can get the stuff straight. Only negative thing that happened is that one of the top players from Turkey, Jay Hoon, had a death in the family and had to leave the course early. But everthing else going on was an awesome party and inspiring experience. Errol and his friend Carlos (Diego del Gastor style) were a blast to hang with too. So when I get the pics I will give some details.

Hello there,

What a great time. Carlos and I were talking about what a great crew we had in Sanlucar on my way to the Jerez airport. Richard M. and Ramin were awesome. I can't forget about my Irish buddy, Henry. And of course..... the great American/German John O. Christoph (Swiss) and Frederic (French) were awesome musicians and people. I've got some great footage. I'll share it with those I love .

Un saludo, Errol

Moraíto must be a really funny guy, the whole night he had a huge grin on his face and was joking around with his friends. I wish I'd asked him for a picture too.

You don't have to learn the things taught. Gerardo shows the group "playable" things from his repertoire for 2 hours, you can audiotape them and work on them during the day. If you take the later course with Tino you should go through the stuff so you can review it with the group, otherwise it's kind of a waste. There's no "test" though. The most experienced guitarists played along in the courses with Gerardo but didn't review.

I must say Tino was great at helping with technique and correcting things. A very nice guy, too.

I probably won't be fitting most of the falsetas I learned into my own playing, but I got a lot of own ideas through the chord structures/melodies we went through. I actually learned most outside the classes seeing the other guitarists play. All the different styles and ideas.

Most importantly, being surrounded by flamenco in it's homeland is something any flamenco musician/dancer should experience, it makes you see everything differently. It was my most important experience up to now as a guitarist and helped me figure out what I want/need to focus on in the future.

What an experience!
It must be a wonderful thing meeting other foro's people and those big
flamenco figures.
Next year I'll come to the course, principally to see Errol and Ricardo!

Wow you guys - just looks like such an amazing time, and as a lone wannabe flamenco guitarist living in a sleepy town, so great to be surrounded by other people who also love flamenco.

One thing I noticed from the pics - girls. Were there any on the course?

A
PS no I take it back - I found two girls in one of the pics! But were they on the guitar course too?
