Color in music? 
I was watching the adam del monte 'introduction to flamenco', where he introduces different palos and explains their compas. When explaining Tarantos, he mentiones how it 'feels' like a dark purple. I found it a bit astonishing that I've always seen tarantos as a dark purple myself. I once read that people with perfect pitch often associate notes and scales more with colors then with sounds. So i was wondering what different 'colors' do you guys see when your playing other palos ? Is it completly related to scales or does the rythm also change the color? I know how I see some palos, but Im curious what everyone else is thinking.

For me it is the chords themselves, not the music overall. When the chord changes, I experience a different color.

E chord=Black
F chord=White with very light blue mixed in somehow.
F#=Gold
G=Red
G#=Dark green
A=Blue, or light blue.
Bb=White with black speckled in.
B=very dark blue
C=Red
C#=Gold
D=Bronze, brownish.
D#=Black with red mixed in

Pretty weird. Oh for me this is not like absolute pitchs, but relative. I mean with a capo way up, i experience the same "colors" even though the pitches are different. And I mean also refering to chords played on Guitar, not any other instrument.

Seldomly. Not colors, but kind of gravitative feeling, motions, or positions? This chord at second 3 for example sounds like driving downhill with a bike or car. Whatever, just downhill.

autistic savant's are reported to having such skills. individuals with Williams Syndrome are also known to have this feature (because they have perfect pitch)

I've had experiences with mind altering substances (Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir" is the color gold), I'll steer away from that real quick, though

Sometimes one can mistakenly think music has a color when it actually comes from album covers or what one was experiencing while learning or listening to a piece. Granainas are green for me because of "Reflejo de Luna" from the Paco album "Fuente y Caudal". Seguiriyas for me are black because "De Noche en mi Triana" just made me associate with nighttime. Alegrias are yellow, sevillanas too, don't know why.

Also any song from Metallica's "Ride the Lightning" is light blue

Thanks for the replies,

I guess maybe it just comes from associating a certain feeling with a tonality, but the choice of color never seems just random to me. My friend is an art student, and he often tells me about the relationship that different colors have on our moods. Obviously brighter colors such as yellow and red would subconsciously be associated with happier scales (such as the major scale) and darker colors with darker sounding scales. Then again, its something thats so subconscious that if you try to think about wich color your seeing you wont see it. Or maybe I've just been smoking too many of these Mexican cigarettes....

Now that might explain the Alegrias and Sevillanas (unless it has something to do with the Spanish flag colors being all over Spanish fiesta halls)

I was wondering myself why soleares are red for me and then it hit me - the cover of "Light and Shade"! That Soleá from Paco blew me away, was was got me into flamenco.

Don't get me wrong, I do believe in synesthesia, I just don't think I have it...
