Picky Picado Question!

Hey mates,

You know how PDL plays picado with his i and m fingers bent at the second articulation? I play that way too, however, I noticed that when I go fast, my fingers straighten out by themselves. Is that normal? Or is it that if I practice slower and with bent fingers, then gradually speed up, I'll be able to play fast while maintaining the bent "posture?"

Another issue about bent articulations: when I play picado on the first string, my fingers are not as bent (at the second articulation) as they are when I play on the second, or third, or fourth, etc. Is that normal? Or should I move my wrist/palm closer to the soundboard/strings (like Vicente) or lower (towards the high E string) for this matter to be corrected (and thus have a fully bent posture about the second articulation when playing on the first string)?

THANKS

Hey Ramzi, look at my reply to "flamenco lessons". There is some video of the picado practice you might find helpful.

Sorry Ramzi,
It may be below your level of playing but worth a look.

I would say it is not something to "correct" as if it is wrong. Do what feels natural and you are able to control. I you feel that your playing is not so controlled at certain speeds, and it is that same speed that your fingers straighten, then it is not a coincidence. YOu need to slow down and practice controlled and with rhythm. Stacato is the way to go I keep mentioning. But if you feel fine at faster speeds, and don't make timing mistakes and feel in control, don't worry so much about the way your fingers "look".
